Title: i think i have figured out what i want to do with my life

i want to be a composer

i've been messing around with finale and composing stuff for outsid rpg in case we ever actually make it, and i'm really enjoying it. however, i have a very basic knowledge of music theory (i'm a percussionist, i just know how to read treble clef in order to play bell stuff. i don't know the theory behind it), and i want to study music and learn all about progressions, modes, etc. so i can better understand how to put together a song.

i'd like to do work for video games or film or something (fat chance i know), so i'm seriously considering switching my major when i get into college this fall to music composition. i'll be in the marching band and a spring ensemble already, and i'm told that i can get a full scholarship down the line if i make the switch.

any advice

They should offer an AP Music Theory course at your school.

how do you know that you wont bore of music composition after a couple of years?

are you merely having fun, or do you have talent and you're really passionate about your musics?

Like he said, I doubt you would find music composition relevant to your life 5 years from now

I'll have a fallback plan if things don't work out, but I really enjoy music and wouldn't mind getting paid to write games scores and such. I just need some theory education.
