So guys, been watching any animu lately? Reading any mango?
I just finished watching the first Hellsing Ultimate OVA and it was amazing. Fucking beautiful new take on the first few episodes of the main series of Hellsing, which I just finished watching last night. It's quite awesome how Ultimate reveals just a smidgeon more about what already happened while changing little unimportant things to keep it interesting. The animation is so much more gorgeous than the original too, and the whole thing is just grittier and even more sexual, what with Seras Victoria's...er...expansions and her almost-rape.
Also recently I watched Paprika, a weird anime movie by Satoshi Kon, the same guy who did Paranoia Agent and also other anime movies like The Millenium Actress. Paprika was strange and hard to grasp, but good nonetheless. Can't call it one of my favorites though.
And before that, I watched Elfen Lied. Terribly sad, terribly violent, and terribly good. My god I felt like I was almost going to cry when it was all revealed about exactly how Lucy killed Kohta's family.
i watched cowboy bebop like five weeks ago
i'll probably never watch anime again

and why

cuz anime sux
lol that's funny
Though I can certainly admit that most animes do indeed suck, there's quite a few that are almost as good as Cowboy Bebop.
The Hellsing OVAs are soo god damn awesome. I watched the original series first and I always felt it was missing something. Then I watched the OVAs...GODLY. Alucard's first encounter with that one priest guy is sooo much more awesome in the OVA than in the series, he is a lot creepier.
I watched Elfen Lied a while back, it was pretty good. I did not feel much attachment to Lucy until the backstory episodes and I nearly cried too. and then at the end...:'(
I began watching Casshern Sins, it's really depressing but also really good. You fall in love with every character even the minor ones due to the work put into their personalities and just how twisted the alternate universe the anime is set in is.
Started watching Texhnolyze, the first episode was not so good for me, probably because I was browsing the internet at the same time, so I will start it again as soon as I can because the premise seems good and from what I am told it gets alot better.
Finished season one of Gundam 00, fuck yes, it was SO GOOD. better than 08th Team! alright that's pushing it a little, but it was good. The Louise side story felt needless at first but then something happened to his girlfriend and I totally felt the pain of war. Then there are the gundam meisters whose stories are really good and each one feels different. I will start season 2 as soon as possible but I have been caught up with other things. You really have to watch it.
I just watched the first two episodes of FLCL for the first time like an hour ago
...what the fuck
This may sound a bit "intoxicating" to others for some reason, but I don't see why. Also, Thank you so much for reminding me about Paranoia Agent. I really enjoyed it when it used to be on Adult Swim.
I've been reading the Naruto manga. The last anime I watched was Deathnote.
I really want to watch:
Samurai Champloo
Cowboy Bepop
Paranoia Agent
But, I'm just too lazy. Also, the first two have good background music. I've only watched them on [Adult Swim], but never really got to see the episodes in order.

Don't think too hard about it. Haruko is looking for Atomsk, the pirate king, who was captured by Medical Mechanica, who wants to essentially turn everyone into mindless zombies and thus rule the universe. She comes to Naota because his head has enough N.O. that she can pull things out of it to use in defeating Medical Mechanica and thus find Atomsk at the same time.
However, the hidden plot is simply this: Naota, through the course of the plot, is slowly realizing that he wasn't as grown up as he thought he was. The whole anime is really simply about Naota growing up.

Ok I'm on episode 4 and I had no idea about any of the first part.
The hidden plot, however, was fairly obvious imo.

The main plot I outlined in the first paragraph is mostly explained in episodes 4, 5, and 6.
Oh man, I really appreciate for your reminding me about 'Paranoia Agent'. The opening is just so good. I always sung it in my head, but I never really remembered where it came from.
In return, if you want to know. The song in Dolphin Dash, is by Masato Nagai, and it's called 'Wild Drive'. Took me forever to find out what the song was when I first heard it.

oh god lol
I consider myself a casual considering I only watch maybe a couple episodes of an anime a month except when I discover new great series.
Fuck, I actually need to finish Samurai Champloo at some point.
Oh yeah, I haven't been watching any anime lately. I'll probably catch up on some of the cooler One Piece episodes, but otherwise, I'm probably not going to do anything about my lack of anime.
Also, with me being the casual that I am, I've only been reading 3 manga:
Bleach (which is crap [why do i read this why why why])
Naruto (which is like a slightly worse version of xkcd in terms of quality)
One Piece (pretty cool)
so um ya
xkcd doesn't suck

xkcd doesn't suck
It has sucked lately. I personally think it started getting bad when Randall realized he controlled a good part of the internet (I'm referring to the whole YouTube text-to-speech thing). Then, after the Election comic, I think things just became a lot more evident. I know it's a lot more about opinion, but I really think that the earlier xkcd -- where Randall would comment on the nerdy, yet cool issues -- is a lot better than the current xkcd --where he comments on the popular issues. It's kind of like a transition from old school Outsider to /r9k/ - from awesome playfulness to "at times funny, but mostly too serious." Well, maybe not that, but I don't know...I think it's just that with early xkcd, Randall just made comics for shits and giggles. While they may have been regularly showcased, it was all for good fun. Now, it's more like, "I have to make
this sort of joke because now it's really popular, and people will know what I'm talking about."
In conclusion, I could go on and on about why I don't like it. :|

It reminds me of something I heard once, that children are the cruelest of beings on this planet. It's sad that there are actually children with absolutely no inhibitions when it comes to killing anything that's smaller than them.
FLCL is my life. I want to watch a few more, but I can't really torrent them, nor do i have the money to buy them. I need to watch Evangelion, Cowboy Beebop, more or Paranoia Agent, and Idk maybe a few others. Any suggestions? And no weaboo shit baddood;
Just finished FLCL...
Fucking awesome.
I started watching the Hellsing OVA's again because Kaz made me want to watch them.
DOES ANYONE ELSE WONDER WHY ALUCARD'S HAIR LENGTH JUST RANDOMLY CHANGES BETWEEN SHOTS SOMETIMES? I MEAN, I KNOW HE'S ABLE TO TAKE ANY FORM HE WANTS BUT HE JUST HAD SHORT HAIR A SECOND AGO.

Yeah I'm not sure, I've noticed that. He generally always has long hair when he lowers some of his "art restrictions", but sometimes he has long hair even when he's just casually sitting around.

Have you seen the English dub?
Everyone has a funny accent. Except for Alucard.
Seriously, the Germans have accents funny enough that it's hard to take them seriously.

I watched it all in dubs, yes, because even though I disliked some of the voices at first I came to consider them "normal" enough that it was hard to change to a subbed version. I think the only voice actor I never liked much in the series was Seras Victoria's, but she seems better in the OVAs.
And I actually like those German accents. They're kind of funny, yeah, but they're also quite authentic. And as for the voices themselves, not frightening enough maybe, but insane enough.
Also, I fucking love Alexander Anderson. He's such a cool character and his voice actor is top-notch.

I laughed when I first heard his voice because I never imagined him with an Irish accent before. n_u
Also, the crazy bitch with the musket is my favorite of the German voice actors.
about to start watching Soul Eater, putting first 6 episodes on Gandalf now.

I think his Irish accent is very fitting since he's a rabid Catholic. n_u
And yeah Rip Van Winkle was cool but she was pretty stupid to think that Alucard wouldn't come to kill her and it kind of annoyed me when she just suddenly started becoming all scared out of her mind.

I know this thread is about animu, but I just finished the Hellsing manga.
Quite good. No idea why it took them 11 years to release 11 volumes, tho.
Also, holy shit apparently Alucard has killed about 3.5 million people. doodhuh;
Paranoia Agent...better than any Anime I've ever watched.
But...if that was an illusion...then I'm to confused as to how the big guy in the 2nd Episode faked his attack, the prostitute, the woman who had no home and had a pedofile as a father, the guy with the bat's suicide, and some others, but I can't think at the moment...

Uh, the series isn't meant to be taken literally. The whole series is meant to make a point. That point is that some people incorrectly look for a way out of their problems (which is Lil' Slugger), and how any phenomenon created by stress can be rapidly blown up by mass media and other factors. The anime reminds us that our worst lies can swallow us and that everyone can be caught in the crossfire. And, when we keep building on each other's lies and problems, they form something so terrible that only one thing can stop them: the truth.
Lil' Slugger was created as a way out when the original Maromi was killed. Lil' Slugger quickly became a way out for everyone who couldn't deal with their problems, and the lies mounted. Combined with the psychological "shield" of the false Maromi doll, Lil' Slugger formed the giant black mass at the end of the series, which only dissipated once the truth about Lil' Slugger was revealed, and suddenly everyone lost their quick way out.
So in other words, all those things really did happen. Lil' Slugger did attack them. But this is not a literal anime.

I thought it would be a literal anime. Anyway, I wonder just how many stuffed animals are based off of deaths of animals, or just memories that are just so harsh of them, it's kind of sick. Makes me think that I was playing with a dead dog in a costume when I was a kid. It's like when you finally realize that your stuffed animal, was really just pieces of cotton in an attempt to make it look like an animal.
Also, the giant black mass didn't dissipate when the truth of Lil' Slugger was revealed, but when Tsukiko Sagi actually accepted that it was her mistake, not some lie that she made. That, was when it finally dissipated. This is just my view, but your's is acceptable, too.

No.
But TTGL is awesome, I wanted to watch Soul Eater but never found the time. Seeing as it's Golden Week in Japan and some stuff is not being released, might as well see what the buzz is about.
I also tried watching Lucky Star and it's as bad as when I watched it a while back. Thought maybe it would be more humorous to me, oh well.
