I downloaded Star Fox 64 yesterday and it has been years since I have played a game where up was down and down was up so I was going all over the place, crashing into buildings and everything, died within a minute or starting the game. So, I go to the menu to see if there is an option to change the control scheme like in Sin and Punishment (just press start and switch it to inverted [why the fuck would you subject yourself to this torture] or normal), but I did not see a damn options menu.
Anyone else hate inverted controls? Anyone ever find them acceptable in some games or (you mentally insane people) do you prefer them in all shooting games?
For flying games it makes sense but otherwise yes
Starfox 64 had inverted controls to simulate you in the arwing, piloting the ship. Anyway for the most part if a game has inverted controls I will get used to them in a matter of 10-30 minutes. Shooters should never have inverted controls. Starfox 64 is not a shooter.
I can only play with inverted controls. Goldeneye got me started on that I think.
Inverted controls are fine in flying games. They're not hard at all for me to get used to.
protip: go into your emulators controls, and make a right, d left, w down and s up

I'm playing on the wii, downloaded it from the VC.
Just download an emulator, since you legally have the game, it's completely ethical to play a rom and change the controls.
But I hate them for shooters, but love them for flying games.
As everyone else has said, inverted controls are fine in flight games. Not so sure about the others, though. befuddlement
Funny, because I absolutely can't stand any game that has non-inverted controls. It's not realistic, and it's just annoying to get used to

Uh, no, it's still illegal. I don't give a shit if he does it, but don't try to tell him it's legal or "ethical."

I didn't say that it was legal, but it is ethical. I said that he legally owns a copy of the game, and ethically (well depending on his values), it should also be ok.
Bumping, as I hate inverted controls and I hate it even more when I switch, as I still have in my head that the controls are inverted.

I wish it was legal if you own a hard copy of the game. I think the word David was looking for might have been "tolerated", as unless you download so many ROMs that you get caught, they don't go after you for downloading one ROM (but if it didn't take all that time and money to go after us, Nintendo probably would.)
I always use inverted controls. Otherwise it's just not comfortable

Nintendo isn't known to go after people who download roms. They have been known to take down sellers for flashcarts, which makes more sense. Why go after the individual with roms when you can go after the person enabling hundreds of people to play the roms?
I love inverted controls in flight games.

That actually is logical. Still would like one though.
But anyway, I don't play many games that use inverted controls.. I think. I get used to whatever the game has set by default. The camera can be different buttons in certain games but it wouldn't really bother me.

You can get a quality flashcart for less than $20 now. It's worth it for all the homebrew alone.

there is no real homebrew you filthy pirate :|
There are some shit puzzle games but we all know everyone that buys it does it for the sole intention of piracy.

You gotta love piracy, makes things a whole lot easier on the pocket book.
Also, some of the homebrew is pretty awesome.
Instead of paying around $30 for some shitty Opera clone, you can get a free web browser with homebrew.

And the next gen will feature nothing but endless Imagine and Petz games. thumbup;
i don't give a damn if you pirate older games, but pirating good games that are still available in stores and underselling is just pitiful
Highlights Best NDS homebrew prior to 2008:

And since that thread was made we have StillAliveDS (amazing 2D portal clone), which I've played more than most retail games:

And Videogame Hero, a great Guitar Hero Clone:

Plus great internet browsers, IM clients, IRC clients, Digital Readers, Manga Readers (idk somebody must use them), Image Programs, and other stuff.
It just needs a solid interactive porn game...
EDIT: Oh and solid emulators for NES, GB/GBC, SNES, Genesis, and other consoles I don't care about.

and considering all of those have resolutions much greater than the DS's (aside from the gb), it'd play like shit

NES looks fine, but yeah SNES/Genesis are spotty in a few games.
Also lol at how you ignored the majority of my post.

Because no one cares about DS homebrew; they get it purely for the piracy
Well yes, but the homebrew scene has gotten to the point where it alone can warrant the purchase of a flashcart.
I used to only play with inverted controls back in the 64 days, like with Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, but after so much time without playing those, I moved to Halo and and Oblivion and started using the Normal controls. Now I can't stand inverted. It bugs the crap out of me. My BFF who I play Halo with can only use the inverted controls though.
I remember sometimes we would be playing Halo, and he would stop playing for a bit and it would be my turn to jump in so I would just play with his profile and I'd start playing and be like goonish WTF IS GOIN' ON?!?!
