Title: Post your Mac Apps!
Post by: Andrios on March 29, 2008, 11:11:04 PM
Post 'em, bitches.

1.  Sixty Force

N64 Emulator.  I don't know if it's the best out there, but it's what I got.  I can't find a DK64 game to play on it, though =/  I've tried a few different ones, too.

2.  Acquisition

P2P sharing.  I love this program.  It usually knows what song I'm looking for, and downloads pretty fast, directly into iTunes.

3.  Adium

It's like Trillian for Macs.  Although it's an awesome chat program, I feel that it is the ducky icon that keeps me coming back.

4.  coconutBattery

Useless if you don't have a laptop.  It just tells you basic stats like ..

.. which I sometimes care about.  It's helpful to know when you want to know if you need a new battery or not.

5.  Flip4Mac

With Flip4Mac, I can watch things intended for Window Media Player.

6. iStache

Adds mustaches to pictures.  You wouldn't think that you'd need this one all that much, but I actually find it useful for those instances when I want to post naughty pics of myself but am afraid that my mom or a teacher might recognize me and be ashamed.  It's my way of going incognito.

7.  LiquidMac

Only works for laptops.  Whenever you move your laptop, particles on your screen move to match.  You can fuck around with the settings to make it look cooler.

8.  MacSaber

Completely useless, and only for laptops.

9.  MegaMan Effect

When you open programs, you get a nifty intro.  Can get annoying after a while.

I have more, but I am lazy.

The whole point of this was to explain what you've got to see if others might like to download that app, too.

I just sloppily patched screenshots together.

Also, I hate piracy but I don't see a damn thing wrong with MAME.

BZFlag is an okay open source 3D tank shootan game with online, but I've dropped it entirely after getting TF2.

i use clamxav to scan files for viruses. it said it found one in a windows game i was going to play in wine but decided not to

I have no idea what Image Capture does but it's preinstalled and I've not once used it in all my OS X days

Unarchiver is supposedly the best for Mac so I got it

Smultron is the best free text editor

IE is for fun

oh ok

Adium: see kaki's post
Colloquy: IRC Client, beats the shit out of the Java applet used in browsers
Cyberduck: How Lawlz and I get stuff done.  It's an FTP client.
Darwine: Fuck you windows, I can run exe files too.
HandBrake: Just incase you need to rip a DVD.
MAMP: How I avoid fucking Boyah up.  I test stuff on my test server first.
NeoOffice: Because Microsoft Office isn't worth anywhere near its price.
NetBeans: i need it to program stuff in java
Parallels: You can run virtual machines yay
Pixen: I used it to draw doodthing;
QuickSilver: I'm lazy and I love setting hotkeys.
Seashore: OS X doesn't have something similar to paint.  This suffices.
Smultron: Once again, Lawlz and I love this.  It allows for quick editing of files.
Transmission: I love torrenting stuff and this works.

Yeah, I use Darwine too. I keep it in a folder on my desktop for some raisin
I don't use IRC... ever :'(

Never have, either

I'm going to get MAMP

Also, doesn't Smultron handle Java? It should be able to save as anything with syntax highlighting too.

do it.  i like running boyah off of localhost.  i delete ppl and then laugh at them. i deleted rio before bassir did it for real

It can't compile, debug, and it doesn't have javadoc built in. NetBeans also brings a dropdown menu as you are typing to give you access to methods.  It saves a lot of typing.

Opera: Browser
Windows Media Player: Manage music and whatnot
Zune Software: Used for Zune
Pidgin: Mutli-Protocol IM Client
Skype: IM Client
CCleaner: Cleans crap out of computer
ASUS WLAN COntroller: My USB Connector Software to turn it into an Access Point
AllToAVI: Video Converter
SuperC: Video Converter
CCCP: Codec pack

And some other stuff i dont feel like listing, nothing's special though, except for the USB thing.

Image Capture downloads files from digital cameras if you don't want to use iPhoto.

As for things I have,

Gimp for photos.

Quicksilver for application launching since I'm too poor to upgrade to 10.4. Command space to bring up the bezel, then start typing a program name, it will come up. Hit enter to launch it. Same thing Spotlight does, but nicer. Can also control iTunes and search/open bookmarks. browse files and folders.

iMote for controlling iTunes. I have it set to Command-Option space to play/pause, arrow buttons skip songs and change volume.

MenuMeters is a menu bar add on. Adds a graph of how much of your system resources are currently being used (%CPU usage / RAM in use / swap disk in/outs / network activity)

I use X-Chat for IRC, since Colloquy is too bloated/demanding to run well enough on my computer.

VLC for playing videos that Quicktime can't.

Two contextual menu additions, Calculate Size and QuickImage CM. Calculate size lets you right click on a file/folder and check the size of it. This may have been fixed in newer versions, but the Get Info dialogue takes forever to calculate the size of a folder. This plugin is very quick about it.
QuickImage CM lets you edit imaged in the Finder. Right click one and Open it with QuickImage, you can crop, resize, rotate, sharpen, blur, greyscale, and add other related filters. But the best thing is theres a second option when you right click an image that lets you convert it to other formats, or optimize jpeg file sizes without opening the image. Right click and convert any image to JPG at 5 levels of optimization or GIf, PNG, whatever if you want.

I also use Adium and Flip4Mac.

Handbrake, Mac The Ripper, Visual Hub, and MPEG Streamclip for video conversions.

Onyx for system optimization.

JigSaw, MacPAR, RAR Expander, Springy, Stuffit, UnRAR X, and ZipIt for unarchiving.

With Firefox, I use FireFTP. An FTP plugin, so you can just upload in another tab the browser. And I keep Cyberduck on my flash drive in case I need it on another computer.

Some idiot in my chemistry class last week was running around the room like a maniac, swinging his macbook with that MacSaber thing. It was incredibly stupid but at the same time really amusing. baddood;

I just tilt mine.. not swing.  I'd drop it, I know it.

Dio you really need all those?

Also, I think there's something called WiiSaber that lets you swing your wii remote around like a light saber and hear the sounds effects and hear the rumble. It was fun for a while, but it was on my G5 and I don't want to get it again.

I haven't used Springy and UnRAR X in a while, but the others, yeah. Don't know why some will open with one, but not another.
