For some reason I hate 3D shmups. Everything just feels fat and not as cool.

Star Fox is pretty much the only Smhup I've played. Any good suggestions preferably on the DS or GBA or Wii's VC?

Axelay, Gradius III, anything on the TG16, and the upcoming Fantasy Zone.

The only DS shmup is Nanostray, and the GBA has like 3 and Iridion 2 is supposedly the best.

Well I haven't really been into the genre very long, but I have a few scrolling shmups that I enjoy.

Gradius III (SNES)
Thunder Force II (Gen)
Ikaruga (GCN)

Though TFII isn't actually all that great, I guess. It switches between bland overhead Xevious-style missions and cool Gradius-style side-scrolling missions.

Ikaruga kicks serious ass, and Gradius III has some flaws (oh god the slowdown) but it's still pretty good overall.

All the other ones I've played I've either emulated or have played on someone else's consoles.

I actually like slowdown to some degree. Without it, dodging is nigh impossible in most games. If Gradius III had no slowdown, I couldn't have possibly beat it without blatantly cheating.

Axelay has no slowdown at all, but the action isn't nearly as chaotic and you have far greater weapons and the ability to attack anything around you, s it's fine.

the reason why i suck so much at arcade shmups is because you can only fire forward and very few have slowdown and your ship is often so slow that you can't get away from those hugeass bullets :'(

And because some, LIKE GUNBIRD 2, have the hit boxes in some weirdass space, like your head and 2 pixels in front of it.

I want some shmups to play on my PSP. I was thinking Gradius Collection but there's also R-Type Delta coming out in a month or so. Those are the only two I know for the PSP, any others?

Also, what are some good Genesis shmups/games? I'm going to get my uncle's Genesis later.  caterpie;

M.U.S.H.A. and Truxton seem to be the favorites. Other popular ones are the Thunder Force games (I have TFII and it's pretty cool but also rather bland and I hear III is better), Gaiares, Sagaia, Super Fantasy Zone, and Space Harrier II.

There's plenty of others, though. The Genesis has a surprisingly large library of shmups that have been mostly forgotten over the years.

Treasure doesn't make the best shmups and you know it. They just make the most expensive ones.

Also, I want to buy Gradius collection but I can't find it or my PSP anywhere. Also, the first Gradius is utter ass, 2 doesn't seem very good, and I don't know anything about IV but it doesn't seem that great. It seems like it'd only be nice for handheld shmuppage since all systems lack in that genre. :'(

Also, I want some shmups but they're usually pretty expensive and collector's like me like to get balls deep in them and take whatever they can find so needless to say that's why I'll never go back to San Francisco and why I have no Genesis shmups.

But I'm probably ordering Biohazard Battle soon.
