Title: why Opera whyyyy
Post by: Samus Aran on December 19, 2007, 03:46:08 AM
I was reminded of an ugly fact today. .gif animations are slower than they should be in Opera. Why the fuck is this? And is there any way I can fix that?

Um... they don't want you to get a seizure magician;

This should only affect gifs with a really fast framerate anyways befuddlement

View my profile on NSF with Firefox. That animation in the background is much slower in Opera, and it's annoying.

But yeah, most framerates aren't affected...it's annoying when you want a fast animation though.

I checked with Firefox, Opera, and IE. It seemed the same between Firefox and Opera and I think it was probably the same in IE but couldn't tell because my computer started to lag gonk;

my first assumption was that your computer just blows, but then i did a quick search thingy and found something that might be relevant
some person guy on deviant art (http://humpy77.deviantart.com/journal/12374968/) was whining about how browsers handle gifs and their timings and apparently opera's the worst

not sure how relevant that is though

what's the animation in question anyways

don't let the weeaboo-ish-ness get to you

(http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/105/caramelldansen2oa7.gif)

It displays just the way I want to in Firefox, but too slow in Opera. Also, the "Windows Image and Fax Viewer" thing that's used for image previews displays it too slow as well. The program I used to make it (well, edit it anyway) shows that it's just as fast as Firefox makes it.

...so only Firefox is displaying it correctly. Why? psyduck;

Also, I haven't checked IE, but I don't really care about it.

oh christ

but anyways the issue that the page i linked to was talking about doesn't seem to be relevant much given that the delay is 40ms so i'm just going to assume that your computer sucks

open up the task manager and see if you have very much cpu usage when using any given program thing to display it

I'm viewing it right now with Opera, and it is slightly slow compared to what it should be.

and the only thing i'm running is opera and my mac is fairly powerful psyduck;

I guess that's a problem with Opera then.

Yes, because it was faster in Firefox than it was with Opera.
