Title: RAM question
Post by: Wolf Link on November 02, 2007, 11:16:22 PM
Would upgrading my PC from 1 gig of RAM to 4 have any significant effect on the power supply? Somebody told me I need to upgrade the PS as well, but so far I haven't had any issues. Any ideas?

Here is a blog article I found while searching.
http://www.upgradememory.com/blog/2005/06/power-supply-problems-after-installing.html

I would say that it depends on what your current power supply is, and how much power your current specs require.

I believe my current supply is only 125 volts. I can grab all my specs off Dell's site, if that'll help.

Thanks for the link. I'll read that right now =D

Honesly, like he said you don't need 4 Gigs unless you do serious gaming or use Vista. Also, has nothing to do with voltage, more like Watts. And it depends on how many sticks you use, but I'm pretty sure they don't use that much anyway.

Using Vista AND serious gaming =D

BF2 (supposedly) needs a gig on its own.

Using two sticks or RAM atm

Vista has a recommended requirement of 1 Gig.  Crysis has 1.5GB.  Along with an antivirus running and maybe a few other apps, I could totally see 3 or 4 Gigs being used.

I'm sure that he's bound to actually need more than the recommended specs.

Again, playing BF2 which supposedly requires a gig of ram.
2 gigs ran it with a lot of lag.
So I bought 4. Why on Earth does it matter? o.o

Well, if your processor sucks, it won't matter even if you upgrade to 16 gigs. caterpie;

Dual core 3.0 gigahertz Pentium D.
Don't think that was the problem =P

After the RAM upgrade, the game runs flawlessly, btw.

a) lol you think your 7900 is badass

b) the point i was trying to make is that you were attributing everything to the amount of RAM you had which is kind of ridiculous

hey guys my 64mb of VRAM is well over the 32mb of VRAM that flight simulator requires so FSX is going to run flawlessly rite

Don't think the card is badass, but it's more than enough.

And well, I'm basing it on facts.

I had one gig of ram, and the game didn't run.
Now I have four, and it runs perfectly.

Hmm...how does that work...

Yes you do.

If you can't explain it, I'm going to ignore it and continue assuming the RAM is the only thing that needed the upgrade :o

No seriously, I don't understand. I mean, the game is running flawlessly right now so I know the processors cannot be THAT bad...but what's wrong with em?
