this is indeed a great fight

dark souls 3 has some amazing bosses in general, i would say it's the best in the souls series in that regard

that's definitely a pretty interesting and kind of bold strategy lol, rolling is my lifeline and i would never think to not do it

it's possible that pope sully does give chase when you roll, but i don't remember him being any more aggressive than any other boss in that sense

i was out of estus and just one or two hits from death when i killed him, and i think that's due to being completely surprised by the clone lol

so good job on taking it out before it could even separate from him fully three separate times srsly[/spoiler]

Not a particularly challenging fight, but the presentation is top notch

i didn't find sulyvahn that hard but i didn't find him easy either, at least until i realized he is very susceptible to the "simply circle around him to the left and he'll always miss" strategy. a lot of humanoid bosses in souls games are like this tbh. good fight tho

soulsborne has so many amazing bosses, i'm honestly not sure which i'd pick for this thread, i'll have to think about it more

Not to interrupt your masturbatory duties, but the third colossus in Wander and the Colossus has to be ONE OF THE BEST. esp since it stands out in a game that is nothing but a glorified adventure through sixteen different boss fights.  The moment you step onto that lonely platform and are greeted with the beast is nothing short of awe-inspiring  akudood;

The whole Metroid Prime 1 and 2 both had a ton of great boss fights. I need to replay those games soon. Damn.

i can't resist the urge to go into detail about what makes this fight so great

• the stylish intro


• fight begins in the darkness, but visibility gradually increases as her weapons themselves hit walls and columns and light the cathedral interior ablaze


• the creepy slow hunched stalking of the player character around the room


• her loud footsteps generally match the tempo of the music and add a neat percussive element


• the graceful sinuous animations


• the flowing of the veil


• the rad spin attack that does an especially good job at showing the above off


• the way her own animations suggest that she's actually quite weak, she seems to struggle to stand upright for the attacks that require her to be stood upright, and then immediately collapses back into that hunched position lol (see from 2:30 - 2:40 for clear examples)


• also way she wields and weightily swings those weapons furthermore suggests they're a little heavy for her/she's too weak to wield them efficiently, yet she still manages to fuck; you up in spite of her feebleness

simply brilliant presentation all around, it's just such a mesmerizing visual marvel of a fight

and absolutely top-notch waifu material, she's just so frail and cute giggle;

a+ boss design fromsoft

probably my favorite fight in the game, and possibly my favorite in souls overall

i might just give it to mother brain from super metroid just because of how fucking amazingly well it's made as far as story cinematic quality goes (the callback to metroid 1 initially, the sudden transformation into a big monster, THE BABY METROID, the Crateria theme suddenly coming in and playing while you're blasting MB with the hyper beam thingy, GOD this ending is good)

i think meta ridley in prime 1 might be the funnest boss in the franchise to actually fight

Super, Prime 1, Prime 2, and Fusion all have some pretty incredible bosses. very hard to choose

Avion (colossus 5) from SotC is a goodASS boss fight. the feeling you get when you hop onto one of them flappers for the first time, OOO BABY

Phalanx (colossus 13) is a close second, but IMO he has a bit more annoying bullshit that can trip up the fight's pacing if you git fuk'd

uhhhhhhhhhhh riftworm from gears 2???

pleb confession: i have a hard time thinking of any boss fights from 2D games that i would consider "great" befuddlement

i guess i don't see the appeal of bosses where you can safely do one strategy the whole time since the boss never changes its strategy either, which describes the two super metroid bosses in my post

dancer took me four or five tries (each more majestic than the last lubdoods;), meanwhile pope sully and champ gundyr took me one attempt each lol sillydood;

so perhaps i didn't feel the force of their greatness as bosses to the full extent (esp. sully, although i don't mean to imply that it wasn't a fun fight)

i will say though, champ gundyr left an impression of absolutely rad even in as little as one fight:

that's fair enough, but i mentioned crocomire and mother brain both for story/presentation reasons and not so much for whether the fight itself is all that varied

yeah, i agree that the mother brain fight is an awesome moment (probably the best in the game) but i wouldn't call it a great boss fight. bUt ThAt'S jUsT mE!!!!!!!!!

it's true that there is hardly anything noteworthy about mother brain strategy-wise, but what's truly outstanding about that fight is the ~presentation~

you have no idea what to expect after breaking it out of its vat, and then all of a sudden after a few suspenseful seconds dramatically freaky music starts playing, this giant alien creature slowly arises from the ground, and it opens its eyes and shrieks at you

the sort of casual way in which it attacks you suggests it hardly sees you as a threat at all, just an annoying pest

even consecutively spamming your post powerful missiles at mother brain barely makes it flinch and is never enough to bring its attacks to pause or break its focus

and you really are just an annoying pest, because once mother brain gets bored of toying with you it makes it patently clear by hitting you with that inescapable beam that you never stood a chance and that death is imminent

only after the metroid comes in to help and you're bestowed with the very weapon that would have killed you does mother brain begin to show animalistic fear lol

all of a sudden mother brain has become the annoying pest who doesn't stand a chance, and it knows that and begins getting erratic and frantic and starts shreiking again before finally perishing

It's just such a cool sequence. :'(
