imo limes are best as a secondary or tertiary flavor
but on their own they have a bitterness to them that isn't pleasant
lemons aren't quite as useful as secondary flavors but they're much better than limes as primary ones
i've eaten both on their own before but i wouldn't do it today because of how damaging pure lemon/lime juice can be to dental enamel lol
