activision may well hold true to the 'non subscription fee' promise, but it's in-game microtransactrions that worry me more with the way the gaming world is going. surely it'll want more revenue streams than just the game itself if it's supposed to live that long. at which point, i would say i would prefer a nominal fee [anything sub-$10 would be fine] and then use fictionalspacebucks the game gives you to procure items than real money myface;

Yeah I think in those leaked contracts from a few years ago they said a new game every two years. I think with a DLC expansion pack in the year in between each game.
But things may have changed by now.

In the leaked contract stuff from back in 2012 (I think it was) it said a new game every other year with an expansion pack in the year in between. And as for in-game purchases, I have no idea.
I'm sure they'll fuck it up and no one will care about Destiny by the time the second is announced. I did order the white PS4 bundle, because I am interested in this game. But, I don't think what they're trying to accomplish will stick with console gamers.

It actually did look somewhat better than I was expecting when I remembered everything I've seen about it up until now was probably from the ps4 version. And I'm wondering if it will be little better to see it on the tv screen from a distance instead of right in front of my face on the computer.
yeah, i'm sure it's a lot less stark without the current gen versions as a direct point of reference
maybe i will pick up the ps3 version

i would have liked to see cross-compatibility, especially since it would have been especially beneficial to the much smaller pool of 8th-gen gamers, but for whatever reason there's almost no precedent for that lol

so far destiny feels like what dust 514 was trying to do but failed so miserably at. which is to say it has actual controls that work and not everything is clothed in grey so it's easy to see RUB IT

I was actually able to do the explore mode for quite a while a few times before getting disconnects. And made it into the tower a few times.

You didn't have to go to the moon, you just had to play anything in the beta after a certain time on that Saturday. It was when the moon mission opened up. And I've heard it was only during those two hours that you could get that other emblem, but I don't know if that was the end time for it. (But it probably was.)

I got a legendary helm for Hunter too. My Warlock is still only level 21 but I have some really nice stuff on it though
The engram system in this game kinda blows. 4 legendary engrams so far. 1 was motes of light. The other three were all loot for a different class...
I haven't gotten any of those yet, but I hear that the higher your tank with the cryptarch is the better stuff you'll get from him.

They need to make it so they are rarer but only have legendary or just keep the drop rate but a guaranteed piece for your class. It makes gearing way more of a pain otherwise.

I got the patience and time exotic sniper from my first game yesterday, and then got the sunbreaker exotic gauntlets from xur this morning which puts me at level 26!
I also got the trophy for completing a strike without anyone dying, while missing a fireteam member on a level 24 strike. We kicked total ass.

Like I've said before, I haven't played it since about a month after it came out and I had just gotten to Mars when my xbox died. I also didn't really play any multiplayer and I would get disconnected if I got to close to people in patrol or wherever because of my horrible internet conditions. And sometimes had a hard time connecting to the tower.
But beyond all that, while it certainly didn't live up to the hype and expectations, I had fun playing what I did play. Who knows how long that would have lasted though since I didn't really get a chance to play it to death and wear it out.

no one has any idea, but I know a lot of companies that make MMOs, when there's a major expansion release like this they offer the base game with the expansion at a premium price to help introduce new players to it too.

Yeah, I think the legendary edition is fine, especially for people that don't already own Destiny. And maybe for people that just own the base game, depending on how much content is in this new thing and how good it is. And it's a normal price for one of those goty/collected editions, but it just kinda screws things up when they release a collected edition with a new piece of content that's so high priced that they also include in it.
And if somebody already owns Destiny and the first two expansion packs it kinda feels like they're getting screwed over somewhat. Especially when they specifically say "hey if you already own all this content you can get this new thing for only $40" which is only $20 less than getting all the other content too.
Maybe if they had released the legendary edition next year I wouldn't feel as much like this. But I guess maybe they did it now so they can get the collected edition out of the way so they can put out Destiny 2 next year and since the new expansion requires the first two. (And maybe they're also hurting for new players?)

this is why i'm terrified of spending more than $10 on destiny
i don't want to end up in a situation like those who were unfortunate enough to pay full price for this unfinished game at launch, and then later had to shell out another $80 for all the marginally more interesting content that was cut in the months before release
bungie refuses to allow anyone to pay for this game just once upfront awdood;

activision just enables them
even if activision were solely to blame (which it isn't), bungie knew exactly what it was signing up for and is 100% complicit in these anti-consumer decisions

yeah tec kind of nailed it lol, also if you just look at a metascore and use that as your basis you're kind of a moron. find a handful of reviewers whom share similar tastes and interests to you and follow their opinions more closely and couple that with your own research, duh.
also ffxv has a metascore of a low 8 anyway, which is probably fair. at that range of course a decent chunk of people will just find it to be garbage; personally i'd give it like a 7.5 as it had its moments but the story was just dookie.
can't speak on horizon as i havent had a chance to play it yet

there's an extremely basic formula to using reviews wisely
- open metacritic page for game of interest
if:
then:
- close page and never look back
else if:
then:
- glean handful of random reviews from reputable sources for general information about strengths and weaknesses and noteworthy points regarding title in question
if:
- strengths > weaknesses sufficiently to justify current retail price of game
then:
else if:
- strengths > weaknesses insufficiently to justify current retail price of game
then:
- wait for adequate price drop
else if:
then:
- close pages and never look back
and that's how you use metacritic strictly to your advantage each and every time
it's a very useful tool for saving time/money/frustration that would otherwise be wasted on garbage games
anyone who hates or shuns metacritic simply doesn't know how to use it, or enjoys having their time and money spent foolishly, or both

you can adjust the given parameters to suit your budget of time/money/patience
in general, 80 works for my allocated gaming budget of time/money/patience
i own very few games that are exceptions to the first conditional, but i do acknowledge that indeed there are a tiny handful of exceptions

for the vast majority of otherwise good games:
strengths > weaknesses insufficiently to justify launch price of game

I still liked it alright, it got better as the updates came out. Still didn't like the always online. It was nowhere near the hype. I only have internet on my phone so I didn't get to play it a lot or any of the multiplayer. I hadn't played it much after the first year because of my internet situation.
I haven't kept up with anything about Destiny 2 at all. But Ia week or two ago I did get it for $12($10 something because of a code) from humble bundle with their monthly sub thing. I just need to order a bigger hard drive so I can try and download it. I still only have phone internet though, but I have a bigger allotment.
Also, Halo was better. I think bungie really needed Microsoft cracking the whip on them. Either that or they really didn't need to team up with Activision. At least as far as the first one goes.
Overall I still had fun.
And the pricing scheme for new content seems abysmal

even if activision deserves some of the blame, bungie should have and would have known exactly what to expect when contracting with them lol psyduck;
amazing, in separating from m$ft bungie killed both halo and its very own reputation lol

mostly money. But I have an unlimited plan and a 20 gb hotspot. So it's alright. And I usually just tether my phone to my pc and it works alright.
