Discuss either Nier, if you played it or plan to, and Nier Automata if you are playing it.

mild interest, more like curiosity about its relation to automata lol
if i end up truly loving automata enough, i might go back and play the original, but i'm not going to make the original a priority when automata isn't directly connected to it and is universally agreed to be a simply better game

yeah, they say you can play automata completely seperate.
I've completed one playthrough, and so far, nothing really connects the 2 aside from a few returning characters that don't really do anything (yet). But if you were familiar with Yoko Taro games, there IS an explanation on why.
yes, original nier is clunky, is dragged out by fetch quests and backtracking, but is still so worth it (if you are able to work with the game and it's issues). I know a lot of people say that about many games ("look past it's flaws, and it's great") but that is like, the epitome of Nier. It's so worth it, I think.
I bet after I get all the main endings in Nier Automata, there's probably a bigger connection to Nier later

I still really want Kaz to play Nier, especially because he was about to while I was on vacation, and never did.
idk it's on my amazon wishlist lol
I've been playing it, and I love it. So far it's my GOTY (might even stay GOTY since there arent many games coming out this year that peak my interest outside of Persona 5 and Fire Emblem Echoes)
I love that it combines multiple genres into one.
especially the shootem up parts
Dp...
I love the shoot em up parts. They were sort of there in the original, but I love that they ran with it here.
2nd playthrough completed. One more, and I should be able to get all remaining main endings.
i will probs pick this up when i get paid at the end of this month
Best ending is K :)
Ok, play through 3 and ending c obtained.
Now it's just cleanup, and the other two endings!
The last fight is amazing. It's so heavy. I swear, this game is 10/10 for me
Lol, I just got followed on my Twitter by the voice of 2b
I have no idea why
Had no idea or interest in this game and then I watched dunkeys vid and now I rly want it :(
only

Really? I was pretty sure I didn't want it and then saw that video and opinion was intensified.
Then again dunkey is just a goof so I probably shouldn't rely too heavily on that girl;
well his vid on andromeda certainly solidified my opinion about it
not to mention crowbcat's awdood;
also i suspect crowbcat to be tec tbh

Yknow it's weird because I'm playing andromeda and I completely agreed with all of his points yet I can't stop playing it even though it's like a worse version of 2 and 3 confuseddood;
Keep Andromeda out of my Nier thread.

It's unfortunate that MEA and Nier are constantly compared to each other because they came out close together, but at least Nier came out on top

except that they are. Not directly or anything, but since they released closely, everybody's like, get nier, not ME.
i mean if you have to choose between them, Nier is probably the right choice

They... sure poured a lot of love into hand-crafting 2B's T H I C C, 300lb silicone FAT robot booty, huh?
don't think i haven't noticed
Everybody has noticed. Everything about character build and movement is fantastic
i will very soon

WAIT THERE'S THAT MANY ENDINGS?
yes, but f-z are all joke endings. You get them by essentially doing stuff you aren't supposed to do.
Only a-e are real endings, and you can get d and e like, immediately after c.
oh
you know what i really like about this game? how pretty much all sidequest objectives are marked on the map, or are at least narrowed down to small circular ranges to investigate
[glow=black,2,300]except for that sidequest where you have to use your dinky little scanner to find 4 hidden objects in the desert, fuck that one[/glow]

is it just me or is this game really unstable on ps4? :(
i hope it's not the fact that i have it installed on an external hdd

uuh, what do you mean? Cause I didn't notice any issues?
tons of stuttering and awful pop-in in the city ruins, couple of crashes

hmm... I think it might be cause of what you said, installed on an external drive....
I've only noticed very minor slowdown, very rarely. And one crash that happened.
so i guess playing games off an external drive is a bad idea and i didn't really extend my storage space at all? FUCK
it depends on the hard drive, really
what are you using externally
is the internal drive the original

do you have an exact model number or product page for the external drive lol

I'm guessing, if anything, that since the ps4 didn't really support external originally, maybe they still have to work out a few kinks?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CRZ2PRM/
so you're on a usb 3.0 connection, which is actually faster than sata 2.0, and the drive itself isn't any slower than the internal one
hmmm'st
do you have difficulties in any particular areas other than the city ruins lol
I think you're actually fine nyerp.
Apparently there's many reports of slowdown and such while just exploring.
I don't actually think it's your hdd
I guess I'm just less noticing on things like that

there's a couple of other problem areas, but i think it's just the game and i'm overreacting lol. thanks guys
i'm glad kaine's theme made it into the game somehow. although not kaine herself. :(
so i guess whichever character didn't die in endings C/D of nier was massacred by aliens? or did they even live long enough to experience the alien invasion? i'm not sure how the characters in nier age since yonah and i think nier himself (in the japanese version) seem to visibly age as the game progresses, even though they're essentially androids who have been around since the inception of project gestalt. idk i just hope they didn't get killed by the weak little machines because that's lame
having looked it up, yeah, i doubt the issue is on your end
sadly the game just happens to have its own set of blighttowns
the city ruins are bad even on pc

to Nyerp
I can sort of answer that, but I can't remember if Emil tells you when you find his secret place.
I know he explains it at some point
Also, I'm guessing that means you did his first sidequest then right?
i did the one where you find all the lunar tears

yeah. I think it's when you do another one, that leads to a superboss, where it gets explained
i sure hope that sidequest activates on this playthrough because i think i'm about to hit a point where the story diverges

it does, don't worry.
chapter select is a godsend for reasons like that.
Also, can't wait for you to get ending e, which you can get easily with chapter select. In fact, you have to pick 9s to get ending d I think.
got endings D and E
chose not to give up my save file because I'M NOT DONE YET, NOT HAPPENING AGAIN, NOPE NOPE NOPE
anyway, so the real villain of the game is whoever designed project yorha? who is this person or group of people, where are they, and why do we never get to see them? or am i just dumb and it's implied that the little girl machine consciousness created everything?
all in all, a great game. wrench; my only complaints are about the performance issues and that i wish 9S had more than one attack button lol. oh and i guess the fact that the game (like nier 1) is too easy on normal, but that might have been my fault by running around the map a lot before the transports activate in playthroughs 1 and 2 and killing a lot of enemies superfluously. the combat's fun so i basically grinded accidentally OOPS.
tfw the hardest thing in the game was the credits
i really like that they included debug mode and chapter select
this game good, very good
now to find out how to do that emil thing

i can't wait for 7 years from now when nier 3 comes out and it's set in the year 24817 and every cutscene is a major character dying or having a mental breakdown
Glad you liked it Nyerp wrench;
This is still my GOTY so far, though I doubt you liked it THAT much.
Do you think it was worth playing this one AFTER Nier 1?
yes, i would say the experience was enhanced by having played nier 1 first, even if it's not THAT important to the plot

yes. if anything, its only important to certain sidequests, as you have, and will see.
got to the end of the cave but the door won't fucking open
well never mind this boss fight is fucking stupid and i'm not going to bother with it. lame way for my experience with this game to end :\

kinda sorta.
There is 1 particular enemy that gives you TONS of exp in the amusement park.
There is a trick to beating him easily with 9s, but I love the combat so much, i fought him legit.
