Why would they use the original controller design instead of the Dual Analog or DualShock controllers? awdood;

It looks like they thankfully went with normal USB ports for these controllers, so maybe it might be compatible with a DS3 or DS4 for analog input.

also how about actually making the PSN's PSOne Classics playable on PS4 instead?

Nyerp

i didn't care when nintendo did it and i don't care when sony is doing it

20 ps1 roms for 100 dollars is a rip-off

TooB

I guess they'll include games that didn't use the analog sticks

lol what a typical $o₦¥ move

welp, for $100 it had better contain nothing but the very best and most gracefully aged of the ps1 games goodjob;

In my opinion a huge part of the appeal of the Classic Edition systems (over just releasing emulated ROMs on PSN/eShop) is playing on what is essentially the original controller, but for Sony in particular that absolutely doesn't matter. The entire DualShock line is basically the same controller and this controller is just a worse version of it. The only advantage I can imagine this controller having over a DS3 is that the L2 and R2 buttons take less force to press, I guess.

It would be funny if the firmware on this new controller identifies as a generic controller and ends up accidentally compatible with the Nintendo Switch sillydood;

Things this thing already does better than Ninty:

. It's actually pre-orderable (meaning they know how to supply it seems)

Nintendo figured out how to handle preorders for these things after they totally botched the first round. SNES Classic preorders stayed available for more than a couple days after they went up iirc, then post launch they got a pretty reliable stock at most retailers and the relaunched NES Classic was similarly well-supplied.

Overall yeah, this all-around seems like a worse offering than Nintendo's systems. The emulation quality and remaining game library remain to be seen and can make or break it.

YPrrrr

That pricepoint is so steep for only 20 games from 20+ years ago jeez

$20 more than the snes classic that also only had about 20 games (i believe 22?)

With ff7 being one of the games, that's a pretty beefy inclusion. Wild Arms? Another beefy rpg. Who knows what other large games they might include.

If they only included a couple other things, it's not that bad of a price point.
Without a dualshock or wall adaptor for the power cable, $80 would be more appropriate

The only classic mini that has "nothing but the very best and most gracefully aged games" is the snes.

Kalahari Inkantation

And that's precisely why it's the only one I own. girl;
