  • Metal Gear Solid: Rising - Lightning Bolt Action becoming Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

The game that always immediately comes to mind recently is

Metal Gear Solid V.

I'm sure it is. But Metal Gear Solid Rising was sacrificed in the process of making it. awdood;

kojima actually might be another todd howard, come to think of it

he should be ashamed of his words and deeds

I blame Konami more than kojima

hot take: konami only did to hideous kojima what hideous kojima did to david hayter

didnt kojima admit basically the only thing he actually developed for metal gear solid rising: lightning asshole was the idea of slicin' n' dicing, and not an actual sensible game, and that's why platinum had to come in and rescue his project?

at least i remember hearing this lol i'm not sure what disappointments you have about this beyond them dropping 'solid' from the name

it's way more than that

Just look at how cool that is. awdood;

rising was supposed to be much more a proper metal gear than the typical platinum hack-n-slash metal gear spinoff it ultimately turned out to be

Quote from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Rising:_Revengeance#As_Metal_Gear_Solid:_RisingKimura stated that Rising would carry on the series tradition of encouraging players to progress through the game without killing, noting that there is a moral difference between attacking cyborgs or robots and attacking human beings, and that there is a "certain virtue to simply disabling your enemies instead of killing them."[5] While it was considered important to give the players freedom Matsuyama indicated that players would never be rewarded for killing human opponents, and that the game would be designed so that players would never be forced to do so.[45] Specifically, the game's stealth elements would have emphasized Raiden's considerable speed and agility through what Matsuyama describes as "hunting stealth." Unlike the stealth of previous titles, in which players remained hidden and avoided combat, players in Rising would instead quickly stalk their enemies and use acrobatic maneuvers to stay out of sight while closing in. This ties in with the game's zan-datsu feature, allowing them to prey upon enemies to obtain weapons, items, and energy.[45] Kimura noted that he wanted Raiden to be able to move like he did in the Metal Gear Solid 4 trailers, and to show "the stealth of the sword, and the strength of not even losing to the gun, and the fear and power you have with this blade."[9]

but by far the worst part is that the original plot was completely scrapped in its transition to revengeance:

QuoteIt was originally conceived to chronicle the series of events that resulted in the transformation of Raiden into his cyborg ninja persona in Metal Gear Solid 4.[5][9] Rising would have taken place during a point in the series' chronology at which Raiden had already begun his transformation into cyborg form, albeit with a different and somewhat more crude appearance from the one seen in Metal Gear Solid 4.[9][37]

Revengeance ended up taking place long after MGS4. As a result, we'll never know what might have occurred in the massive events gap between 2 and 4. We will never know how Raiden so drastically transformed. awdood;

and that is legitimately megadisappointing

i seriously still haven't gotten over this loss lol

hm, i suppose on the story beat, yeah that's a bit of a bummer/very weird omission lol, i missed all that shit because i basically saw the reveal and then it went into limbo for a bit.

however i've gotta say i love how revengence actually turned out in comparison to how it was revealed lol, but i'm probably a bit biased becuase it's probably my favorite platinum game.

they gave up on the game pad after the launch line up. They should have sold it separately after the first year. Lol

oh yeah

the wii u is unarguably the worst nintendo console ever barring the virtual boy, and its sales agree with me

it's equally appalling and fascinating to review how nintendo managed to so dramatically snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with every single decision they made with regard to console, and even more amazing to have witnessed that in real time

from the very moment they announced its name, from the very moment they showed the device off, they had already made grave mistakes lol

it's why i like to call the wii u the hillary clinton of video games (https://boyah.net/forums2/index.php/topic,69877.0.html)

they should never have bundled the stupid thing with it to begin with

nintendo itself never had so much as a SINGLE good idea for the gamepad, i simply can't fathom why they felt it necessary to package the console with it and treat them as inseparable when not even one game makes good use of it

With me learning Blender, the graphics could be done.
I need to look into Unity, and we could come up with something.
