hi boyah
i have a ~$500 budget for a digital piano
(i absolutely despise the term """keyboard""" because of the ambiguity)
Anyone have any experience? Anyone have any recommendations? :music_and_others_2_9940_3732_
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR
as long as it has at least 5 octaves and is velocity sensitive, it'll probably fit your needs. the thing about instruments is that if you plan on practicing, you need to be sure it's an instrument you enjoy playing. go to a music store and try some out
Quote from: Mando Pandango on September 27, 2022, 09:16:17 AMWHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR
idklol the best possible high-quality beginner-friendly one with cool synth features within like okay maybe ~$600 >.<
Quote from: Mando Pandango on September 27, 2022, 09:16:17 AMvelocity sensitive
w-what does this mean
Like, the force of the keystrike? befuddlement
Quote from: Mando Pandango on September 27, 2022, 09:16:17 AMgo to a music store and try some out
oooooohhh this is a brilliant idea
i was just gonna hit up djeff bezos lol
Velocity sensitive means you can play loud/soft by hitting the keys harder/softer that's all
oh yes
oh yes oh yes it's not a piano without sound modulation
that's a definite must have lol
What Pepsi said sounds good but also bonus points for midi so you can use as a synth controller if you so desire
Quote from: strongbad on September 27, 2022, 02:49:55 PMWhat Pepsi said sounds good but also bonus points for midi so you can use as a synth controller if you so desire
What does this mean? How does this work? befuddlement
i basically want all the useful features lol i don't want to feel like i need to buy another within two years
A midi output will let you use it as a controller for software instruments, synthesizers, etc.
That means it'll be the keyboard and you'll hook it up to another thing that makes the sounds
a final question before i visit the musical instrument emporium
Digital piano owners, why'd you pick your model over all the others? befuddlement
oh and also is $500-$600 a reasonable budget
also lol, even digital piano doesn't avoid the ambiguity since technically every piano ever is digital
these should really be called ePianos, as in
"i am a rising ePianist"
i bought a casio recently and it's ok. the tone sounded a bit weird to me at first but i got more or less used to it. the sustain wasn't very good i actually wouldn't recommend it but it's adequate for my level of practice and i was too lazy to return it cuz it's a big heavy thing. it was out of that or yamaha p45 i wish i tried the yamaha now in retrospect
Tec do you have a teacher? Any kind of a learning plan?

oh btw i momentarily visited Guitard Centre™ :banjorave222dy4:
Gitaroo Man recommended the ~$550 yamaha p. 45 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UJ9LNDK/) (WARNING: BEZOSZON LINK)
but i haven't look into it since then lol god i'm way behind on this project myface;
My Next Step:

Quote from: Mando Pandango on October 01, 2022, 08:22:39 AMTec do you have a teacher? Any kind of a learning plan?
no LOL
i basically just want to be able to do this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIa3QrbEZg4
Can't be that hard, right? befuddlement
i basically just need a physical algorithm for doing that lol
what that man is doing will take a lot of hard work and practice over a long period of time, especially if you want to sound that good
but do not let that deter you
he makes it look so easy tho
like he's having fun, even
yeah because he knows the instrument really well
i know there are literally written instructions for playing music but honestly i never really learned how to read that script LOL
having a good teacher helps a lot

GOALS:
- play this comfortably at 75% speed

that would be nifty, i feel like

i could probably get you up to speed tbh. piano is not my main instrument but it's the one i learned on initially and i'm pretty comfortable with it.
Buy this:
https://www.amazon.com/Hanon-Virtuoso-Exercises-Complete-Schirmers/dp/0793525446
And practice those exercises to a metronome, slowly speeding up as you get comfortable with them. Only take on a couple at a time.
Beyond that, learn the proper fingerings for all the major and minor scales, which you should just be able to look up. Again, this will take time. Start with C major, then G and F major. As you get comfortable with these, move onto the others, adding one sharp or flat at a time to the scale that you're learning. By this I mean: C major is all white keys. G major is 1 sharp and F major is 1 flat. Then 2 sharps is D major, 2 flats is B-flat major, etc. It's good to know the theoretical reasoning behind this but it's more important at first just to be able to play it and build your muscle memory. That's the point of practice: building muscle memory.
And of course all of this can get VERY BORING because it's just exercises, so be sure to try learning simple pieces you like as well!
All of this is probably what you would do in lessons at first.
Sorry, I keep realizing that I take the ability to read music COMPLETELY for granted.
you're gonna want to learn to read music too. piano is probably the easiest instrument to do this with.
ok good luck
Thank you kindly Popsi. I'll be placing an order shortly. tomatoes;
I suspect it's a bit like studying hieroglyphs. befuddlement

Anyway, I have made my decision. I went a tad over budget. smth;
the idea of being "in tune" is a social construct
in fact the 12-tone equal temperament tuning system we now use has only been around for about as long as recorded music. before that, depending on how a piano was tuned, a piece would sound like a different flavor of "out of tune" depending on what key it was in
and i think it's a shame we ever lost that
