Title: good job
Post by: snorkel on June 21, 2009, 07:30:29 PM
I got a SATA/IDE to USB converter thing on eBay, because I planned to replace the hard drive in my iMac and needed a method of connecting the old SATA drive without buying a more expensive SATA enclosure.

Stupidly, I didn't bother testing the converter before replacing the hard drive.

I replaced the hard drive successfully (it was fun), but then discovered that when I use the SATA power converter the hard drive's power controller chip thing just starts smoking. Perhaps Apple has some sort of sabotaging method to spite people who endeavor to upgrade their hard drives, but I think this goddamn hong kong piece of chink shit is just not working

so now I have a bricked iMac until I go spend $50 on a enclosure
