I just finished watching Breaking Bad and Doctor Who for their seasons this year. Breaking Bad was so fucking good, who... Not so much.

Watching the new season of How I Met Your Mother and trying to stand watching the new season of Two and a Half Men. I will start watching the new season of The Walking Dead sometime in the oncoming weeks when I get a chance.

I barely post in this thread, so I'll just compile what things I've been watching or watched in the past...few years I guess.  In the past I watched:

-  All four seasons of Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction
-  All seven seasons of Entourage (I loved the first two seasons, and I guess it was pretty okay beyond that.)
-  Most of Are You Afraid of the Dark?
-  Finished Goosebumps for the most part
-  Finished The Nightmare Room
-  Finished at least a season of The Haunting Hour
-  A few seasons of Tales from the Crypt.
-  Watched MANY The Twilight Zone Episodes- I'd say most the episodes- 1950's, 1980's, and 2000's episodes.  (Forgot    many but, one of my favorites was when this guy drove by a town to get some gas, and his dog went to chase something and this girl made it disappear with some top secret device and had most of the town against him.)
-  Watched the first season of "Monsters Inside Me"
-  I actually got into Arthur at one point, because I've heard in kid's shows that they'd have something catering to adults once in a while, too.  It's been some time, but I had a laugh with a few things, and I always thought it was a good show overall.  Seasons one through five are my favorite- but onwards I either like them or have mixed feelings.  Season sixteen is shit, in my opinion.  Their animation has changed for the worse.  One of my favorite episodes was when Arthur and DW thought that their parents were going to be divorced, and imagined what their lives would be like.  AWW
- Watched one season of Project Runway.  Fucking loved Gunnar and Chris- Gunnar more
- At least two-three seasons of...America's Next Top Model
- A few seasons of...lol...Two and a Half Men.  Watched it when I was bored, few things made me laugh.
- A season or two of Supernatural
- A season of Melrose Place.  (Got canceled.)
- A  season or two of Nikita
- A few seasons of...lol Vampire Diaries.  (Honestly, it's not that bad, in my opinion.)
- I finished Life Unexpected (Some things, in my opinion, were just cheesy and/or corny.)

Currently watching and/or trailing:
-  My Haunted House
-  A Haunting  (Not too much of a favorite with the stories so far.)
-  Hoarders: Buried Alive
-  Trading Places and/or Wife Swap whenever it's on
-  Anything involving nannies, (Supernanny or something like it.), murders, mysteries,
And maybe I'm missing some things but I think I got it for the most part.

Recently Finished:
Both seasons of Paranormal Witness (They have some pretty good reenactments, in my opinion.)

But yeah, I'm really interested into shows involving the paranormal,  murders, and some psychological stuff- some of it can be "light."  When I get a chance to watch T.V., I'll watch TLC sometimes, and regardless of them showing Honey Boo Boo- some of their programs are actually okay and try to show experiences from people in unique situations.  I mean, where else can you find a channel that hosts a specific thing like women not knowing that they were pregnant?  Regardless, I only watch T.V. once in a while, anyway.  I can talk about other channels, too, but I'm too lazy at the moment.

Favorite channels in no specific order:
Local News
Investigation Discovery
TRUtv  (I just like watching "World's Most _____" for the most part.)
TLC
Chiller
The Biography Channel
Discovery Fit & Health

speaking of the show's bias, it's making watching the beginning portion of the fourth season rather unbearable

Honestly, I'd say skip it too. Literally nothing happens in most of the season 2 episodes. It's just pure dialogue. There isn't even much character development in the dialogue so you won't be missing anything interesting at all. They stay in the same setting, talking about the same shit, looking for a missing girl. I almost stopped watching the show entirely because it was so boring.

But yeah the last few episodes were awesome.

My only complaint against the mid-season finale was that it should have happened at the end of last season. It was great, don't get me wrong, but it was long overdue.

This season hasn't been bad, but it got really slow for a couple of episodes before the finale. I still have it better than season 3 though. Finale was definitely a huge step in the right direction and I am looking forward to February.

lol what character development

S2 was awful but that's what happens when you impose budget constraints on a show that is blowing up.  S3 was hit or miss but definitely an improvement, though that isn't really saying much.  I enjoyed this past season for the most part though they suffered a little bit from the same pitfall that made S2 so unbearably boring i.e. all the survivors holed up in a place of safety but they allowed the characters to venture off the central location while also covering other characters in B stories to make it a lot more interesting.

the current episodes of the west wing are becoming a giant drag.  the show isn't even subtle about who will be the presidential nominees so it makes any sort of tension that could arise from having an actual interesting primary season non-existent.

i though it pretty much on par with the other seasons, which is to say it was great lol

i feel as if at least some of the fan ambivalence about it could be explained by the five-year gap between it and season three, which put many of the actors slightly into the uncanny valley for at least the first few episodes

like seeing portia de rossi's new face for the first time genuinely left me wondering if it was the same actor

it also actually is a tad slow to start, but the pacing picks up pretty quickly

jessie ended up with his freedom, which is more than he had in the entire show. this show is a perfect 10/10. a testament to storytelling and character development.

could you have predicted this from the get go? there is not a legitmate answer. There is not a greater instance of storytelling. There is no greater instance of a character coming full circle. And even though these people, these charcters, end up jaded and scarred, that grey area where the moral compass points in every direction, that never leaves. Never for one instance can you say that Walter or Jesse or Skylar or whoever are unjustified for their actions.Never for one minute. Walter White is the greatest character devised for television, and Breaking Bad is a monument to what storytelling can be.

finished the sixth season of the west wing last night.  what an awful, awful way to end the season.  the only interesting thing is cj betraying the trust of the president by leaking something to the press.  and even then, the show didn't do a good job at even making you guess who could have done it [the show hasn't directly said it was her yet]. :|

the nomination process was total shite, 'lol our idealistic liberal latino dream boat wins the nomination thanks to a shitty brokered convention'!!  the number of times i head 'this is democracy in action' whilst showing the democratic candidates' staff trying to strong arm delegates into voting for them with bribes of jobs at agencies or positions inside the back staff of their guy made me want to vomit.
i miss the first four seasons when it was just liberals wanking themselves over a strong-willed democratic presidency.
what's wrong with watching murder mysteries and investigations?  i love observing situations and reasons behind a motive, and listening to police, crime investigators, forensic scientists, psychologists, and etc.. on their perspectives on the victim, the crime scene, a twist in the investigation, cold cases, loved ones surrounding the victims and suspects, and etc..

i stopped watching sitcoms and drama series because i get into a show and then all of a sudden they end and the cycle continues.  last show i ever watched and completed was entourage.  it's not like ill truly gain anything anyway but be surprised about how a writer and a few actors can be so compelling.

now, i rather would watch a documentary, the news, and my guilty pleasure, some "reality" shows on TLC and else where.  i also do like some paranormal documentaries on places, too.  but even that's a stretch.

anyway, today i just watched the episode of some uk documentary series called, "benefits street."  i don't think i like it that much...  i watched its pilot.
I still don't understand why they tried to make the pasty Jew that was the [glow=black,2,300]second[/glow] VP's Chief of Staff/Campaign manager and then White House Press Secretary [boy, he can do it all] the love interest of the Republican NSA liaison lady in season seven.  But maybe I don't understand the way Liberal brains work.
Carl Sagan Cosmos, I got to see the Voyager spacecraft models at JPL so I had to go back and watch one of the best science
documentary series of all time.

Sounds of Earth, which was developed by Carl Sagan and planted on Voyager 1 (or 2?)

i finally finished breaking bad a couple of days ago
i'm a little bit ambivalent about the ending and i wish there had been more time spent tying up loose ends (jesse in particular), but the series as a whole is easily the best i've ever seen mostly thanks to its truly expert characterization and impeccable ability to humanize those most inhuman
finished Breaking Bad about an hour ago wrench;
ending was pretty much how i called it after watching the 2nd-last episode
really good ending but I wish there was more about what happens with Jessie, poor guy

jessie ended up with his freedom, which is more than he had in the entire show. this show is a perfect 10/10. a testament to storytelling and character development.

could you have predicted this from the get go? there is not a legitmate answer. Walter White is the greatest character devised for television, and Breaking Bad is a monument to what storytelling can be.

also how do you expect tec not to click these spoilers.

believe it or not, i managed to avoid those spoilers goowan
Season 1-2 of walking dead

It's so bad at times but sometimes it's actually decent. The zombie make up and gore sometimes is fantastic and sometimes is shit. It's not the worst zombie thing i've seen but it's not the best...

Anyone who likes the tv show should play the first season of the Tell Tale Walking Dead game, it's fucking fantastic. Season 2 is meh

I just finished episode six.
The sub-plot with the swedish exec guy seems...out of place? I don't really understand why he started to seek out Eliot in the first place...

It's also feeling kind of fight-clubby. Not just the whole "wipe away the debt" scenario, but the narration and the fact that Mr Robot probably isn't real. I hope it doesn't end up that way.

is he swedish? but yeah i agree with you he is kind of too extreme
things come together a bit more by the 9th episode

also agree with it being fight clubby lol
do you like it thus far besides those criticisms?
Title: Re: TV - Currently Watching Thread
Post by: strongbad on September 03, 2015, 06:38:06 AM
i actually thought the prison subplot felt like it didn't belong, but i definitely enjoyed it. also you totally called mr robot not being real lol
should be interesting with tyrell "joining" f society. i also like that he is possibly schizophrenic- makes all these "twists" more believable. stoked to watch the finale once it leaks
edit: spoke too soon looks like it is already out
stoked to watch it when i get home lol

game of fanfic's writing has been so, so abysmal this year.  everything is as it seems and there's no more suspense.  literally have to laugh at all the show fans who were coming up with absurd theories about how a girl would survive the waif's ambush.

also great on the show to not show the two most important deaths at all, but let's see the hound disembowelling a guy via his groin!!  also nice budget cutting on not showing the war between the masters and slaves in meereen at all just so we can get the dramatic imagery of dany strolling into the pyramid!!!!!

IN D&D WE TRUST

Since I haven't watched ANY horror movies from this year- I'm going to start with two today.

Watching The Wailing, Korean horror movie.  It released not too long ago, it's been getting some decent reviews.  Wasn't interested for some reason until now.

And Badlands of Kain- I blindly picked this movie.

i'm in season three now. Nosedive was really fun, kind of a nice break from how bleak most of the show is, while still maintaining the overall feel and themes of the show. Playtest wasn't that great tbh

right before this season, the episode White Christmas was amazing tho
Title: Re: TV - Currently Watching Thread
Post by: YPrrrr on January 13, 2017, 01:12:27 AM
Ya White Christmas was boss

Playtest left me in a funk it was just kind of depressing. I saw quite a bit of it coming but it still made me very uneasy and I felt my brain tingling for a while afterward. So I guess it left an impact and I'll give it credit for that. The episode which followed that was pretty much about blackmail was the weakest of the series to me

i was planning on starting that very soon too

i just now finished the new season of Black Mirror. god damn it was another great season. i do think that Arkangel and Metalhead were a bit lackluster compared to the rest of the episodes, though.

aaand i didn't quite like USS Callister as much as everyone else seemed to. mostly i just thought that the humor in it was a bit out of place for this show. it was still great though, maybe just not the perfect episode that so many people seem to claim it is.

i know a lot of people were also absolutely nuts over Hang the DJ. while i do think that episode is absolutely wonderful, i do feel like it drags on a bit. and it's not the "new San Junipero" that people make it out to be. SJ is a lot better.

but still, minor gripes and such. this season is overall fantastic just like every season before it. god i love this show.

it's great but it's admittedly a bit hard to get into early on and the joke delivery can be a bit obtuse and rapidfire in a somewhat detrimental way at times. sometimes i felt like i was missing stuff. there are also really tiny details that are rewarding for fans upon rewatches because practically every little thread in the show becomes A Thing later on

i started watching The Terror recently. from wiki

QuoteThe series begins with the Royal Navy's polar explorer ships HMS Erebus and HMS Terror having recently left Beechey Island, heading south toward King William Island into uncharted territory, seeking the Northwest Passage. The ships are soon stuck, frozen and isolated, and those aboard must survive the harsh weather conditions and each other, while being stalked by an elusive menace.

It's a slow start but I'm on episode 4 now. There are some pretty lame bits (a shoehorned homosexual love affair, Dry British Syndrome, bad cgi and questionable direction) but ultimately there is enough going on to keep me hooked.

finished the terror.

glad i stuck around but the villain was lame and the cgi never got better. BUT the drama between the captain and the crew was fucking great 7/10

started Disenchanted, the Matt Groening Netflix show. It's pretty good, one of the guys from Futurama got brought on and the humor definitely carries over. The art style is a little...off? like for some reason it looks really weird even tho this is the same style Groening has used his entire career. at any rate its a solid show.

I also finally finished Bates Motel.  The final season strayed a little too much from their 'plan' as I understood it to recreate Hitchcock's "Pyscho" but I guess that's to be expected because it was never 100% accurate to the source material to begin with lol

nah i'd seen most of it on TV growing up but it has been over a decade. i definitely vibe with the humor a LOT more as an adult. has also been interesting to watch after going through curb your enthusiasm- so many similarities that make me realize how larry david's influence is probably greater than jerry's

Seinfeld has been my favorite for as long as I can remember. I finally recently watched Curb and honestly, knowing Larry through Curb makes Seinfeld even better.

It definitely vibes better as an adult. I think it gets an unfair shake from people who decided they didn't like it bc they saw it when they were young.

It definitely vibes better as an adult. I think it gets an unfair shake from people who decided they didn't like it bc they saw it when they were young.
Agreed with all of this. I enjoyed it as a teen but this rewatch is proving how much of it went over my head.

Although we recently took a break from Seinfeld and have been going through Malcolm in the Middle which is a work of art in and of itself. Top tier sitcom imo

that's weird because I LOVED seinfeld in middle and high school but in recent years every time I watch it, it's just kinda boring or the things they do make no sense to me
still a good show and hugely influential though

on season 6 of frasier rn
trying to finish this series all the way this time around
stopped around season 8 the last time i gave this show a shot nearly a decade ago

season 1-3 are comfy
season 4 is based
season 5 is ok
season 6 feels like it's teetering slightly into writing slump but still decent

recently my girlfriend and i watched season 1 of true detective, which is one of her favorite seasons of television. it ruled

then we watched season 1 of fargo, one of my favorite shows. still rules (this was my third time seeing it)

now we're onto season 2 of true detective. we'll see how this goes...ive already been warned that it's kind of a mess
