Neat. Too bad I've never really enjoyed metroid
why wry
So it's a Metroid II remake, right? Either way it looks great, movement looks a lot more fast & fluid compared to other Metroid games
YEAT ANOTHER METROID 2 REMAKE HEH HEH
MercurySteam gives me cause for pause, but hopefully they can manage to not fuck this up

oh its mercurysteam?
Shit... hopefully it's Lords of Shadow 1 mercury, and not 3ds/los 2 mercury
So this is the real reason Nintendo shut down the other one I guess. Now we know
looks cook
now I gotta get a 3ds and a switch at some point for the other one

I'm confident mercury can do it.
i'd never even heard of mercury before today
their only noteworthy releases are a trilogy of consecutively more mediocre castlevania games
i have no confidence whatsoever

I stand by that the first los is legitimately a great game.
The 3ds one was good, but felt a little forced in trying to be a metroidvania. Los2 mostly failed because they tried to make it a stealth game mostly.
With this, they have a framework already to work with. I feel it will be hard to like, genuinely mess this up. Like, bad.
I feel the worst is that it'll be like, ok.
yeah i think this game could be somewhere between a 7 and 9 but i highly doubt it'll be shit

i loathe lords of shadow but this looks okay
probably the only game im looking forward to
would look towards metroid prime 4 but lol i left the previous installments in in incomplete hell
finished super matroid and man was that the shit
so i'm actually only now watching this for the first time
i smiled :'(
it legitimately looks great
and i had always found it kind of a waste that samus' left arm pretty much just dangles uselessly in every single metroid game and thought they could give it some use by introducing melee combat
and then this game seems to have introduced basic melee combat
lol omg
except using the arm canon so left arm is still useless, but it's a promising start
i have medium hopes for this game, but i'll probably buy it no matter what

i could see it settling in the low-mid 8 range, and i'd probably be okay with that
I see 8.5

oh my goodness
Quoteanother new element is the ability to ping out a pulse to discover secrets. The ability to scan is attached to a meter that can be refilled by defeating enemies and it can help fill out your map and identify breakable rocks.
Quoteand the ability to to scan the environment will hopefully help reduce those moments where you are exploring aimlessly without clear direction.
this addresses my single most significant complaint about the metroid series
Also, I'm extremely offended that the European version of the Special Edition is so much better than ours. doodthing;
too bad i can't solve that problem by simply importing 5thgrade;

Too bad for Nintendo that I'll never gamble on buying a 3DS again considering there's a 75% chance I'd get one with sh@ TN displays. 5thgrade;

'''collectors'''
people who haven't upgraded from the original 3ds yet
the remaining 90 million original ds owners who for whatever reason (the iphone) haven't yet bought a 3ds
I don't really get console upgrades imo the only upgrade that was ever worth it was the GBA SP.
in general i agree, but for me the '''new''' 3ds xl was a massive improvement over the original 3ds of standard size in many ways

I do hear that can at least play games with a better fps amongst other features so I guess I can see that one
that, plus reduced hand cramping, plus actually practical 3d thanks to the eye tracking, plus larger displays, plus ips displays if you're lucky
i actually don't even own a single game that takes advantage of the '''new''' 3ds's increased processing power lol
I've only ever used the 3d for Zelda ALBW and Mario tbh
But it did work well in those so it was cool
mario makes the best use of it, easily
in most other games it's just a neat gimmick
but at least with the new 3ds, it's not a gimmick you have to fight with to get to work lol, so there's no reason to ever turn it off
3d works really well on kirby robobot too
but yeah 3d is fucking unusable on normal 3ds models compared to the eye tracking 3d of the new ones. i actually use it from time to time on the new one where it was permanently off on my old one

i mean, i don't see too much to complain about here lol befuddlement
aside from how frustratingly bad the player himself is
jesus wow, that reminds me of the polygon doom video where the dude looked like it was his first time playing an FPS and he was doing it with one hand or something

look at this punk
i like this game but i don't like the controls. i'm only like three hours in and there have been parts that require three simultaneous inputs across both hands, which is weird. Doable, sure, but i stood there for like three minutes trying to time aiming and hitting the buttons and it basically killed the pacing. additionally, the circle pad just doesn't feel good for precision controls, like i always feel like i fuck up my movement or aiming ever so slightly because of it.
two things that would have made this astronomically better (besides just full control customization, but lul, nintendo):
1. allow swapping the d-pad and circle pad controls
2. make fucking use of the N3D's extra buttons. i don't understand why in the year of our lord 2017, nintendo's first party games at the very least don't make use of the extra buttons on their updated system when they are having to resort to having controls designated to the touch screen or wonky combination/hold button presses
I haven't run into anything like that, at least not yet I guess
I do agree about dpad control tho
my gripes would be mostly moot if i could play the game with the friggen d-pad ugh :|
controls in 2d metroids have always felt weird 2 me
i agree that being able to use the dpad would be nice. but any accidental fuckups on aiming or whatever have been pretty minor for me so far, can't say it really detracts from my enjoyment. about two hours in and it's a great fucking game
Now I kinda want mercurysteam to handle the next handheld castlevania (which likely will never happen cuz konami) and without being a Lords of Shadow game.
Got this yesterday, haven't started it yet though. Maybe this weekend.
now that im getting more used to the controls, game is v fun. i havent played any metroidvanias in a while so that probably helps
just got to area 3 woop wooooooooooooop
Nintendo should let Mercurysteam do a Zelda 2 remake
nintendo should let mercurysystems to a custom robo game
just beat this game today. was good. i missed 2d metroid games so much, prime is okay but the pacing on the good metroid 2d games is unreal.
i like this game but the controls were redonk, how many buttons do i have to press at the same time to fire? i at first like the aim anywhere to fire mechanic but sometimes it was a pain to fire at a 45 degree angle to hit some of the bosses. i wish they would auto aim to 45 degrees like in metroid fusion/zerommissson. i did like that the game was difficult even though some of that felt like the awkward controls
if you're like me and love 2d metroid get it or if you like metroidvania type games, otherwise it probably is a safe pass.
Quote from: reefer on September 28, 2017, 06:41:38 PM

that was a thing even all the way back in super metroid
i beat it last night too, was very fun, albeit i thought some things were dumb
-controls as said were fucking ass
-bosses were reused way too much. this is a fault of metroid II really, but man, after fighting a boss for the first time and being like UGH THAT WAS ANNOYING and then having to fight them 4 more times, its kind of a bummer
-wish the game had a bit more forced backtracking, was very linear. again, metroid IIs fault
i would give this a HIGH seven. probably my least favorite 2d metroid that i've played through, but still a v decent game
end game spoilers:
ridley fanservice was kind cringey, and the boss fight was kind of too long and boring IMO
fucking amped that mercury seems to be teasing maybe they got the greenlight on a fusion remake. though i heard this started as a proposal to remake fusion, so maybe it's just a nod to that. regardless, i fucking love fusion.
I don't really see the need for a handheld fusion remake. I'd rather have a sequel to that.

Super Metroid Remake lllllllllllllllllllllol
i mean i dont think that would piss anyone off it's just a weird thing to suggest cause it isn't necessary either
anyone play AM2R? I wanna try, looks more like a fusion remake than this game
we're in 2017, plenty of things less deserving of a remake get remade so lets just remake every metroid game (even the already remakes like zero mission)
