realy? i thought the pacing was weird. the animation was really good but the story seemed jumble

question just to clarify

Is this that anime movie from the 80's?

strongbad

Yeah the one from the 80s

Ya Silvertone your points are valid. I just loved the world creation. It was like our society was in the 1920s and then continued advancing that same era of technology instead of whatever we did. The art was amazing too

Samus Aran

Satoshi Kon's works, namely Perfect Blue and Millennium Actress. But Tokyo Godfather and Paprika are really good as well. Also, if you like his movies, definitely consider watching his series Paranoia Agent.

Metropolis
Your Name
Wolf Children
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Ghost in the Shell 2.0: Innocence (it's a completely different continuity from the first film or the series...or the manga for that matter. but it's still fantastic)

Also, I think they're pretty overrated, but you may want to check out Ninja Scroll and Jin-Roh. They're not bad but they have the same issue as Akira: people love them for the visuals but don't bother thinking about whether the story is actually all that good or not (or poorly paced).

And as far as movie series go, Break Blade is cool as hell. Not the best written thing ever but if you like mecha you'll like it. And speaking of mecha, if you ever wanted to get into Gundam at all, both the original MS Gundam and Zeta both have film series adaptations that are probably currently the "best" ways to watch the first Gundam series. Likewise, the Macross adaptation SDF Macross: Do You Remember Love? is probably the best way to watch that first series as well.

Also, if you want something that's visually stunning that you can turn your brain off for, I've heard Redline is pretty slick. Haven't seen it yet though. And I've heard nothing but great things about the recent Silent Voice.

And obviously watch any of the important Ghibli films that you haven't seen already. In particular, please watch Castle in the Sky and Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro if you haven't gotten to them yet.

Most of my other favorite anime films are attached to series.

I could've sworn I listed Wolf Children....

I meant to list all his movies.. .
