Title: woes of art - general project progression thread
Post by: 6M69I69B9 on October 26, 2018, 11:47:00 AM
i thought itd b kool to have some sort of thread if anyone's working on an art project and wanted to detail them here

so im trying to make some fan art of one of my favorite chars for this dbd community i go to
and instead of digital im going to try to make this into an actual ink drawing for halloween
the thing is i havent been getting a bunch of time to actually practice certain things to perfect this
like ive been searching up the specific clothing for this costume and have been trying to get it down good, i really need to touch up on how i do the folds/wrinkles for clothes too

well time to get ready for work now rip

So I've moved onto Blender and while I've been familiarizing myself with the techniques of high-poly modeling I wanted to jump back into game assets and start with a fresh new project that I could take a crash course on Unity with.

"Kingdom of the Beholder" is sort of a mixup of The Adventures of Lolo, Bomberman (classic) and Solomon's Key, if the ideas I have work out. But the art style is an intentionally low-poly, very soft cartoony look to it. Once I familiarize myself with the other rendering styles, I'll eventually add a soft bloom lighting effect to it.

The hardest part isn't the modeling, simply because when I used Anim8or the basics were there. The hardest part is learning how it is all correctly done on an industry-scale. Anim8or kinda followed its own rules but as a result never had quite the options or power that other programs do. That being said, the modeling isn't what's taking me so long - it's the UV's, the modifiers, and the rendering.

Here's a non-violent enemy "Blemmye" - he's more of a wall really. He walks around and you should be able to avoid enemy attacks while behind him. On top of that, you should be able to trip him on ledges when you need a bridge against a gap, and if you were to have meat on you, you could also make him follow you to where you need him.

The Blemmye (Google it - it's the exact name) is actually based off the real medieval Blemmye legend.

Man, I am struggling to practice.  I finally got the time to just sketch to myself and practice.  Tomorrow as well.  Though, it's like everything I spurt out is just garbage and it's really eating at me.

I really want this piece done before Halloween.  If I don't, I'm definitely going to feel like shit for a long time.

ignoring everything right now to get two pieces of work done
- community event drawing
- oil painting of my dog

trying to get this one drawing done for a short community event im going to host, but all im doing right now is the bare minimum and brainstorming

i do this like every other few months  happydood;

drawing some poses but not 100% sure
omg i cant wait until i get to finalize one fucking idea so i can go ham

edii:
omg i drew so much for the first time in a long time
i definitely got some stuff done, takes me so long to do every body part bc im unironically ocd
but lol one leg done, but i think i have a good idea of mapping the whole body.

Alright, after so much procrastination, these last few days I got my ass down and I went ham on finishing the last parts of this drawing I'm doing.  It's now fucking 95% done.  I just need a small background, do a little polishing up. It's basically just one normie guy standing, but BUT I really OCD'd this shit and I think it's at the very least decent.  It's also MSPaint but fk it, this is on the realm, if not better, with the other MSPaint drawings I posted in the past, too.

I don't want to post it until after the giveaway I'm hosting is done.  But I REALLY needed to gloat.  HOLY FUCKING SHIT I'M 95% DONE.  I usually like keeping drawings for the sake of presentation a mystery until after the event is done.  I may do this event either this weekend, or hell, maybe when the game gets another DLC patch.

But man, this is the shit I live for.

Never posted a follow up- but this was the drawing I did for that event.  Man, that event turned out to be a success as well.

I've been working on a mashup album for a while. Just kinda making mashups whenever I think of them until I have enough good ones, then I'll polish everything up and drop it for free on bandcamp. Getting pretty good results honestly.

wips: https://soundcloud.com/ganonm/sets/diarrhea/s-WIoyH

Right now these are all mostly proof of concept and I'm gonna try to think of ways to add some spin. Honestly it's a really chill way to work on music where I don't really have to write much or at all.

man, I tried sometime ago getting back into oil, and pssh i just gotta get into some re-learning and derusting.
oil for some reason just can get me stressed compared to all other mediums
though I'm going to tend back to it some time soon

actually well, the painting was going to be mostly for my father, but ever since he passed, I've just been having less motivation towards it.  But I don't know.

Either way, I know I've gotta touch oil painting again- but it won't be for a while since I've got a bunch on my backlog already- but it's in anticipation to come back to oil painting in the long run.  They always say that if you can draw, you can most likely get into painting- and my strokes are great, i think I can get great depth with value with the right tools, and I know how to mix colors- but regardless I always get apprehensive (also high maintanence) but still want to give oil painting a proper try again.

lol sure, if you give me enough time. i was never very confident with traditional media because i tend to make a lot of mistakes, and you can really only erase so much. but with digital art, i'm free to take as long as i want. and even that simple drawing took me many hours.

but it's fun! and very relaxing.

ooo forgot to post on here
finally did an oil painting for once lol
finished this just before 2021, but man lighting in il wasnt the best until very recent, hell, I only get the sun when it reflects off the paneling from another townhouse lmao, and finally felt like i could take a proper pic of it

https://bit.ly/2P4ZuV1

unironically rushed some of this, feel bad abt it bc i can see it as soon as it's zoomed in
but 2021 was ending and was losing time, one of my goals for 2020 was to finish an oil painting
the perspective for this is not meant to be so upclose
thus why i spaced myself away when taking this pic instead of cropping it

Still working on mashups when inspiration strikes. Think i got enough conceptually for a minor release.

Also been trying to write more music but having a hard time satisfying myself with my own output. Some good stuff though. It's gonna be work to make this happen but i really want to see it through

No but I really should. It's something I always want to do but can never seem to get myself to focus on. Drawing, videos, music, anything really. My friend actually made a few zines and sent me some and it made me want to try making one myself, just to give me something to practice with. Every time I start anything I give up quickly because it's always shit  goodjob;

drew a bit of a tribute to amy winehouse with her 10th "deathday" in mind
literally cant believe it's been 10yrs

also, this drawing took so many attempts. i didn't even have this planned initially, I wanted to depict her full body but I botched it and was too deep in to actually salvage it. but this turned out all right so im not too bothered by the previous experience in the end, tried to do this much earlier but I procrastinated or had stuff going on.  did this overnight. worth it so w/e
