Considering that Xbox One features region lock and has other region-specific features (like payments, languages), there's no way Xbox Support would recommend importing the console to any of its customers. Even if the user is in a country which would be in the same region ID and uses the same Euro currency, the support team is probably not allowed to recommend importing at all; the disclaimer might even exist for unresolved legal reasons and the marketing and retail distribution groups need to have reliable data on a console's popularity in each country which gets skewed by imports. The same would apply to other companies like Nintendo, but Xbox is the only One that actually gives the users this big of a reason to import.
Considering how anti-consumer Microsoft is getting with Xbox One design, I wouldn't exactly be surprised if they GeoIP every user. If they don't, importing will probably work just as well (or rather just as badly) as it currently does with 360.

In PC environments I'm familiar in reasonably technical ways with, portability is of greatest concern (especially hardware, including even GPU manufacturer), OSes give you an unpredictable slice of CPU clock, you can't rely on any particular number in system specs, and any focus on performance would be split between making the software run better on worse systems or adding more stuff for the system to spend its power on.
I've seen some of the sort of low level hackery that goes into old systems, but I feel like this talk shows some interesting insight on single-platform-focused development on more recent (eg 3D-capable) systems with priorities like "time to triangle" while offhandedly mentioning a much stronger focus on "puzzle-solving" assembly optimizations than I expected game developers to still have.
but I doubt many other game developer studios actually think much like Cerny does about this stuff

it will apparently be more difficult to program for than the ps4 is because programmers will have to decide which lines of code require which type of memory instead of having an all-in-one (lol irony) system (which is why sony decided against a similar setup for the ps4 (http://www.gamechup.com/ps4-sony-earlier-thought-about-slow-gddr5-edram-1088gbs/)), but the 360 too was also set up in a similar way to the xbox one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_hardware#Graphics_processing_unit) and most developers didn't seem to complain about it (or, at the very least, it must be much easier to deal with than the ps3 is)

I can't wait to see, after xbox one launches in Japan, just how much more poorly it sells than 360 did.
With 360, Japan actually produces some Xbox-only games, a practice which I'd expect to be drastically reduced if not destroyed thanks to Microsoft seemingly intentionally giving PS4 a significant headstart in both launch date and retail price. I also wouldn't be surprised if the price gap between the two systems ends up even larger in Japan than in the US.

i read somewhere else that there's another 1gb of ram that games can access if need be, but i'm not sure where i saw that lol

'Better to replace dead batteries than dead controllers :D'? befuddlement I've had mine for four and a half years and it still holds a charge fine; I charged it last Wednesday and since then, I've played at least thirty hours which is more than decent for me.
I've never understood people's hatred or dislike of the controllers being able to use AA's. I mean yeah, I get that if it doesn't come with a battery pack then that is kind of bad and I do get that, but this way you can use AA's, rechargeable AA's if you have them, or a battery pack. Or apparent no batteries at all if you have a micro usb cable so you can go back in time to the controllers of old. Which you could sort of do with the 360 and I assume with the PS3 too maybe?

I've had my PS3 controllers for about the same amount of time and I've had no problems with them. Even then, you can just plug the controller into a laptop or the ps3 and use them like that.

I love the emphasis on features like dpad and USB which other controllers have had for years
I imagine that "even better" is comparing to the transforming dpad.

I think I'd actually prefer a solid-color Wii U system, but I'll grab this bundle anyway if the price rumors are true and they don't screw anything up like making the system less than 32GB. I'd prefer a 3D World bundle if one is announced.

Like mentioned in another thread, 2DS is newly announced. A 3DS without 3D display nor a folding design retailing for $130.
Wii U Deluxe is getting a price drop: $300. This is effective on September 20.
Wind Waker HD's Wii U Deluxe Bundle launches the same day: September 20. All Wii U owners can download the game from eShop the same day, but the physical version by itself still isn't launching until October 4. It's not clear yet what exactly the Wind Waker Wii U bundle includes; in particular, I wonder if it still includes NintendoLand and whether both games are physical or preinstalled digital.
Apparently the Wind Waker Wii U bundle does not include NintendoLand and the copy of Wind Waker is a digital preinstall. It, of course, doesn't include a Pro Controller like the ZombiiU bundle did.
It does, at least, include a copy of Hyrule Historia. I'd rather have another game than that book.
It's the same price as the regular Deluxe Bundle. Although I'd rather have a plain black GamePad, I'll probably get this mainly because Wind Waker is worth more than NintendoLand.

To me, the comparison is:
Pros:
Assuming I'm getting both games eventually, it's cheaper by (at most, only until Wind Waker is cheaper) $20~30
In the (unlikely) chance that someone else's GamePad is ever in the same room as mine for any reason, the Zelda markings distinguish it.
Cons:
I'd rather have a physical copy of every Wii U game I get
The console effectively has less storage space because of Wind Waker's install
For controllers, I prefer simple solid colors
I can more easily justify digital content on a handheld system like 3DS because that makes it more portable to not need to transport cards. I suppose my problems with digital content aren't exactly inherent to digital content in general, but with the implementation: no temporarily sharing games, can't trust Nintendo to keep my purchases without a real account system, and small storage drive (with external drives fully locked to the console, can't be partitioned or otherwise shared with a PC).
At least it's rumored that Nintendo might fix the accounts issue, but I doubt they'll ever deal with those other two.

With Basic being dead now, black is the only option left for Wii U
The only choices are either physical NintendoLand or digital Wind Waker (and digital hyrule historia), with the console itself being exactly the same in both bundles and the only other difference being the GamePad's pattern.
Either way, you get a solid black console, a black GamePad, 32GB drive size, and a "free" game.
I thought we just discussed that there's still remaining Basic stock and unless I'm mistaken it's even cheaper, right?

No. At least, Nintendo claims* it isn't. Early this year, a few retailers have already put Wii U Basic on sales for below its $300 MSRP, so it's probably not unlikely.
Actually, from what I've read, Nintendo seems being quite vague about its Wii U Basic plans. They might even be recalling the stock and converting them.
* It's probably worth noting here that, only about two weeks ago, Iwata outright said that Wii U's price isn't the problem.

it is until you notice all the stuff microsoft wants you to store on this thing. games, tv shows, movies, nsa collecting metadata strings, music, etc, etc. 500gb is just not enough, and making it incompatible with external storage solutions out of the box [when you said that would be an option right away] is just dumb.
500gb is only about eight full-sized blu ray games (minus space for the os), which would have been a serious problem if microsoft had had the gall to stick with their original plans for the xbox one

yeah, even all of their television and cable and other multimedia features won't be nearly as extensive at launch as what we saw during the xbone reveal, and that's what they were touting as the xbone's most significant feature

the sports stuff is a unique feature so it makes sense to show that off, especially during football games at the start of football season
i'm sure there will be plenty of other ads shown during different shows that show games or other functionality
and like they've been saying the whole time, it's more just a living room entertainment device, games being one aspect of it

between the wii u's complete failure to thrive and the total absence of the xbox one, the ps4 is really not going to have any competition whatsoever in japan, so a slight delay probably isn't going to hurt them much, especially if it means they can pour more resources into trying to secure north america lol

Do South-East Asia regions have a fairly large Christmas shopping season comparable to US's? If so, that would explain wanting to launch there before Christmas.

What an awful placement of ABXY. This controller is clearly designed for games like FPSes where most button-based input is in the form of shoulder buttons. Good luck walking around and using whatever actions are mapped to X or Y at the same time.
I hope their trackpad implementation is joystick-like rather than requiring repeatedly lifting your finger. That would be absolutely awful.

blu, to answer your question about the pads working as joysticks or having to lift your thumbs, it seems it can do both
and the center buttons seem to be additional buttons (like start/select), the right trackpad simulating the buttons usually on the right, tho idk how that's gonna work with games that would use both sticks on a normal dualstick controller
i'm thinking the right trackpad will interpret sliding your thumb as using the right stick and pressing it as pressing the buttons lol idk confuseddood;
but either way as far as simpler games go i guess this is reassuring somewhat

Both PS4 and Xbox One really expect everybody to have some sort of internet access, although they at least respect that for some people the internet access might be down occasionally.

Nintendo updated the 3DS today for two Nintendo Network features: Miiverse and shared eShop balance with Wii U.
Unlike what many users might expect, this does not unify friends list between the two systems. 3DS friend list still uses friend codes and that's very unlikely to ever change.
With Miiverse, users can now easily upload screenshots taken from the 3DS games that have Miiverse community support, which includes every Mario game, Link Between Worlds, Ace Attorney, and some others, but notably doesn't include Pokemon X/Y (there's a community for it, but apparently no screenshot attachments there)
Until now, I think New Leaf was the only 3DS game that users could take relatively clean screenshots of without using a modded 3DS unit. Or "clean" if you don't mind the awful jpeg artifacts that exist in both New Leaf's native screenshooter and in Miiverse screenshots. It's at least better than taking photographs of the LCD.

really? in the past week i have been to walmart, toys r us, target and best buy. every single one has had xbones readily available, none has had a single ps4 in stock befuddlement

honestly, even if nintendo listened to third parties about what they wanted in a system, i doubt it would help too much. the people who made the wii successful see most games beyond the few party games they needed for their wii as a waste of time and nintendo fans aren't the most receptive of other games. awdood;
you have to keep in mind that during the snes's days, video game consoles were considered toys, and were mostly purchased by parents for their children. and there was no real "gaming journalism" and video games were not reported on nearly as much by mainstream journalism.
things were much more tv commercials, word of mouth and "mom please buy me the new nintendo"
so selling that many units, despite how hard it was to sell video games back then, was pretty amazing
yes, after so many years of anemic third-party backing, nintendo fans have been conditioned to support only nintendo games
and the wii's old userbase has all flocked to various idevices by now, there is no recovering them at this point
so nintendo is now whirling in a Cycle of Sadness in which developers don't want to deal with them because they know their games won't sell, and nintendo fans support only nintendo games because third-party devs won't deal with them
they have to do something to break that cycle, and actually appealing to developers would be a start

i think i would almost prefer having a consistent 30fps experience to the extreme fickleness of jumping around between 60 and 40fps
with such variable framerate comes perceptibly variable response time in the controls, which is incredibly annoying, and being locked to 30fps makes that a non-issue
i would settle for a compromise of a steady 45fps, i don't understand why devs seem to think it either has to necessarily be 60 or 30 frames
especially since they've demonstrated that they certainly don't feel that way about resolution, with them inventing new nonstandard resolutions like 900p to accommodate console weaknesses what seems like almost daily

i think the the titanfall pack-in is an absolutely fantastic idea though, what better way to whet the the appetites of future xbone owners for what is sure to become one of this gen's massive multiplayer franchises than to give them all a free copy of the the first game and probably hook a significant number of players who would never have thought to give it a try otherwise
it also makes the the complete dearth of a system seller on the the ps4 all the the more apparent, at the the moment sony still doesn't even have any especially noteworthy exclusives announced

because there is much more to game fidelity than resolution and framerate
the the the the ps2 could probably run tetris at 1080p 60fps because it's an incredibly simplistic game by any technical measure and the the the the ps2 could devote pretty much all its resources to running it at a high resolution and framerate
other things to consider include texture resolution, size of the the the the game world, draw distance, physics, ai, etc., aspects of game fidelity that generally aren't emphasized in nintendo's comparatively simplistic games
the the the the wii u currently has more games running at 1080p and 60fps than even the the the the ps4, but if you were to compare any of the the the the wii u's 1080p 60fps games with any of the the the the ps4 or xbox one's 900p games, you'll find that while the the the the resolution and framerate might be lower, the the the the games themselves are much more technically advanced than new super mario bros. or wind waker have to be in countless other ways, and as a result the the the the ps4 and xbox one sometimes can't afford to devote significant resources to any particular resolution or framerate
I'll just keep enjoying Super Mario 3D World, then. n_u

Not that the games on PS4 don't look really good, but not all of them run really well... I don't know where they went wrong picking the parts for it but my computer has 1/4 the vram of the PS4 yet games run and look 20x better on it. Granted the GPUs in question may be completely different and the one in the PS4 could be a very old/not powerful GPU.

it struggles to keep up with low-mid-range gpus over a year its senior
combined with a cpu that is arguably even worse than the ps3's (there's a reason sony prefers to compare the ps4 to the ps2, http://gearnuke.com/playstation-4-sony-confirms-1-6ghz-cpu-clock-speed-43x-faster-playstation-2/), it's no wonder an inexpensive pc can easily outperform any of the current consoles
also your computer may have just 2gb of vram, but it probably also has 6gb of system ram, and both are typically used in games as system ram is more than similar enough to make up any differences (the xbox one uses purely system ram and is comparable in performance to the ps4)

Their choice of hardware seems weird to me. Why wouldn't they try benchmarking on the actual Alienware Steam Machine hardware instead of some random build they had lying around?
The unanimously lower performance of their SteamOS graphs compared to Windows even in purely CPU benchmarking seems particularly strange; I wouldn't be surprised if they tested Windows first and then before letting the system cool down at all immediately switched over to the SteamOS testing.
I'd totally expect benchmarks to show Linux to perform slightly worse than Windows with most GPU-intensive games because of both the video driver development and game development prioritizing Windows for optimization efforts (and also X11), but I put some doubt in results with that much and such consistent difference in favor of Windows.
