Title: IT'S HAPPENING!

suggestions??

all i really wanted is a reliable computer that can browse reasonably well, maybe not to lote-like levels of extreme, but can easily handle upwards of 20 or so tabs without issue [esp. for my online classes] and one that can handle my "gaming" [football manager, san andreas, simulateur de camion européen]

i was debating 8gb of ram but maybe that is a bit overkill n_u

also idk yet if i'd splurge to get a decent keyboard/mouse or new monitor yet so that's also why i'm going for cheap as possible

even if 8gb seems like overkill now there's no guarantee you won't want it in the future

i'd say for that reason you're better off getting 1x4gb instead of 2x2gb, unless you have plenty of slots lol

8 GB isn't overkill at all nowadays
i have 10 and i wouldn't mind having a bit more

i very recently upgraded to 8 from 6 and it still doesn't feel like enough

being limited to 6 was torture (and also a weird number)

i bet that felt great

so yeah, unless you're on a really tight budget i'd go with 8

ram is pretty much always the limiting factor when it comes to web browsing anyway

I wish I had one that could handle my levels of extreme. Although, I wonder where I'd end up if I did get one that could?

Go cheap on peripherals if you have to buy them and get a small ssd for your operating system and some programs you use most often.

i'm usually using up all of my 8gb and have to use some swap space

then again i do a lot of work

and boogs is right on the ssd. a 64gb+ ssd would give you the absolute biggest possible boost in performance

ja, ja.  it's a shame i can't buy one today since adata's 128gb one is as sale & cheaper than the 64gb one, i could install pretty much all of my programs and video james on it lol

also, how ~good~ are stock cpu heatsinks, my room tends to be the warmest in the house since i always have the door closed lol

Then get a 128gb sad

And idk I doubt a cheap heatsink will really make your room hot or impact performance too much. Older, inefficient CPUs and GPUs that are always maxing out their cycles will be the big heat generators

i think these are the parts i've settled on [woo corsair yeah].  if the prices don't fluctuate too much, i should be able to get some other things w/ computer at least

Wha? You can get 120mm fans for a couple of bucks a pop, or just pay twelve for the cooler master 4 pack. They're chintzy, but quiet and they move enough air around. You could put those few extra bucks towards a cheap optical drive or something.
