In an ideal world, what additional territories would the USA be in control of? happydood;

baja california should ABSOLUTELY belong to america, god knows why we didn't take it along with the rest of northern mexico after the war

also, cuba obviously, how we managed to fuck; that one up so badly is simply beyond me goonish

and possibly the bahamas, they're just so close to florida and so defenseless, and we have a severe lack of major coastal islands

that little snippet of vancouver island south of the 49th parallel should also be ours, clearly

non-americans welcome to participate with their own expansionistic fantasies nyandood;

Dislodging Quebec from the Rest of Canada,, would also certainly make it much easier for us to absorb the Maritime provinces one unit at a time. I can't imagine that you, as a completely separate country, would care too much about their own separation from Canada. tomatoes;

And then our mainland eastern seaboard would finally be complete. giggle;

US took the land it did after the Mexican American war to open the way to the Pacific. It provided a nice contiguous landmass for this purpose in which there was a very sparse population of Mexican citizens.

The reason the US largely ignored territories to the south was because the Mexican and native populations were higher which would have created non-white majority territories. Which obviously no one was really thrilled about at the time. Not to mention these populations would naturally be hostile towards any occupying forces or displacement.

Baja California at the time was also viewed as a resourceless piece of mountainous arid land unsuitable for farming. There was a higher number of natives in this area which fought especially hard because one of the US commanders refused to accept native surrender and would execute any captives.

So it wasn't really worth the extra effort to the US government to militarily dominate Baja California when their main objectives had already been achieved.

not that that's saying much, lol

i couldn't blame any (especially mexican) politicians for hating tr*mp

but i can blame them for failing to acknowledge that their '''leadership''' has resulted in the near total failure of a territory with such great potential, and that things would be better for all if they just ceded all of mexico to us :'(

i can't say i know too much about this new guy, but things like this:

https://wtop.com/latin-america/2018/07/mexican-president-elect-wants-every-kid-to-go-to-college/

make me think he might be a bit of a populist himself, lol

1. mexico's education standards are complete crap and perhaps he should focus on improving the effectiveness of its primary and secondary education facilities first

2. sending absolutely everyone to college would just turn college into the new high school and delay entry into the labor force for those who truly don't want/need tertiary education, lol

back to MY question Tec

Lopez Obrador views education as a way to put otherwise unoccupied youths to work and reduce crime. He pledged earlier in the week to pay salaries for apprentices employed by Mexican companies as part of $5 billion package of scholarships and training.

Does that leave out American companies based in Mexico? That would or could slame a big door on American companies producing goods in Mexico. I hope he does.

and while that's totally logical, it's less than ideal if the quality of education in mexico is relatively poor

and i'm not just aimlessly shitting on mexico when i say that, either:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Mexico#Quality_of_education_in_Mexico

it's a p. fantastical idea to have all students pursue tertiary education when not even half of high school students are graduating, and not even 2/3 of students are making it to hs to begin with

which is why i think the focus should be on greatly improving primary and secondary education standards well before there's any discussion about post-secondary, in my most humble of opinions

to be fair, he actually did just barely touch upon high school inadequacies, but i don't think he made it quite clear just how much work needs to be done in order to bring things up to speed

Lopez Obrador views education as a way to put otherwise unoccupied youths to work and reduce crime.

and while that's totally logical, it's less than ideal if the quality of education in mexico is relatively poor

and i'm not just aimlessly shitting on mexico when i say that, either:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Mexico#Quality_of_education_in_Mexico

it's a p. fantastical idea to have all students pursue tertiary education when not even half of high school students are graduating, and not even 2/3 of students are making it to hs to begin with

which is why i think the focus should be on greatly improving primary and secondary education standards well before there's any discussion about post-secondary, in my most humble of opinions

to be fair, he actually did just barely touch upon high school inadequacies, but i don't think he made it quite clear just how much work needs to be done in order to bring things up to speed

Quote from: FAMY2 on July 09, 2018, 03:40:49 PM
He pledged earlier in the week to pay salaries for apprentices employed by Mexican companies as part of $5 billion package of scholarships and training.

Does that leave out American companies based in Mexico? That would or could slame a big door on American companies producing goods in Mexico. I hope he does.

this seems like a fair idea to me, i certainly can't fault a mexican politician for doing what's best for mexicans within reason 5thgrade;

i doubt any large us companies are going to be seriously harmed over something like that, lol

but tl;dr the mexican education system needs srs work at all levels, not just college

Having first hand knowledge of manufacturing in Mexico there are lots a capable people working already and many of them just need the proper training. It's a place to start making changes. So many factories have to send their engineers, it people, plant managers and a whole list of support people to even make things run. Many of those jobs just need trade degrees not years of college. It would be a big plus for Mexico and it's people.

please substantiate this claim
HMMM WHERE TO BEGIN
-the destruction of the native population and the theft/ruination of their land
-the preservation of slavery to build the country to what it is today
-the discrimination against and terrorizing of black people that had existed since the very beginning but refused to die out even after the abolition of slavery, because lets face it, white supremacy was what this nation was founded on and its what keeps it running
-its policing of the world so that its companies could profit at the expense of the people living in lthe global south
-directly interfering with these countries to keep in power ruthless dictators that were pro-US
-the full support of the settler ethnostate israel

lol, no

you will certainly not find me defending a single one of the well-known atrocities on your list, but if you seriously believe that america's history makes it more "evil" than nazi germany, or imperial japan, or russia/the soviet union, or the british empire, or the dutch empire, or the spanish empire, or the french empire, or the belgian empire, or the mongol empire (etc.), i have no idea what to say to you other than please examine your extreme selection biases and familiarize yourself with the history of atrocities committed by nations other than the us

in any case, i will offer some counterpoints:

Quote from: Ezloﺕ on July 10, 2018, 06:25:33 PM
-the destruction of the native population and the theft/ruination of their land
-the preservation of slavery to build the country to what it is today

nobody denies that the foundations of the us were built upon the mass graves of natives and slaves that the earliest americans themselves put to death, but these events are, for the most part, over a century in the past

how do you propose present-day americans (many if not most of whose ancestors arrived after slavery and the elimination of the natives had largely ended) atone for the sins of these villainous early americans

do you hold today's germans accountable for the sins of their grandparents

do you hold today's mongols accountable for the sins of their great-great-(etc.) grandparents

Quote from: Ezloﺕ on July 10, 2018, 06:25:33 PM

good job on completely ignoring the fact that contemporary america is a much, much more livable place for nonwhite americans than it was even 50 years ago, that's a totally honest argument you're making

obviously discrimination remains a great problem that we must continue to address (again, feel free to propose solutions as opposed to being some smug defeatist), but you are being bewilderingly disingenuous by effortlessly dismissing the massive progress that has already been made

yes, this has basically never worked out well for anyone, but i don't think you'll find too many present-day americans in defense of warmongering

things like our continuous meddling in the middle east/north africa, and the history of meddling in south america, and all the absurd escapades in the name of anti-communism that continue to haunt us to this day, etc. are all extremely unpopular and generally recognized as mistakes, at least among average american citizens

the inflection point at 1950 is pretty much the direct result of globalism, an ideology first championed and popularized by the us

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bretton_Woods_Conference

obviously there has been significant collateral damage, and obviously that doesn't excuse the third-world (and second-world, and first-world) exploitation that continues to be practiced by the likes of nestle, monsanto, oodles of energy companies (etc.), but the world, including the global south, is an objectively better place thanks to globalization, and even """communist""" china agrees

neoliberalism is an imperfect ideology, but its benefits for global life quality exceedingly outweigh its costs

it has lifted literally billions out of abject poverty

the world has unarguably become much richer, much safer, much more peaceful and stable than it has ever been in the decades since america skyrocketed to the top after wwii, and no other hegemon in human history has ever enabled, or allowed for, or even so much as desired, such a universal uplifting of peoples (the european empires for example would have simply stolen all that newly created wealth long ago)

that is certainly not to say that there have not been great mistakes made along the way, but you know, you are free to eschew the great benefits of globalism and pax americana and go live in the wilderness if you want

none of those countries were founded on stealing land and decimating the original population. all of those were evil as shit too, but thats completely irrelevant anyway because it doesnt change what the US has done. also i already said to abolish the US and to return the land and sovereignty to the indigenous population. i also already told you how the US is constantly involved in wars and foreign intervention to keep up its own goals. you are the one brushing this aside and using “whataboutism”, conveniently ignoring that all of those other empires are nowhere near as relevant and powerful as the US currently is. but again, you are a bootlicking apologist so it doesnt surprise me

no it wouldnt, taking back doesnt siddenly mean kicking  everyone off of it. of course your mind is so warped by american imperialist garbage that you cant imagine returning land without physically leaving it. of course if you ask me the majority of americans who are so invested on pax americana (e.g. you) should definitely leave  n_u

what, in practice, does "returning land" mean if not physically leaving it

link me to a poll or something that says that the majority of native americans want complete governmental control of the territory presently known as the us, lol

I researched and found nothing that includes a poll he asked for. I have researched their history and yes they were treated terrible. But that doesn't make the Us scum of the Earth. You just want to disagree with Tec and not back up your theories.

surprisingly, this is the most mind-boggling post i came across in this thread so far. how do you look at natural human migration into unsettled land that develops into thousands of years of developing societies and say that its exactly the same as colonizers coming on to already settled land and then enslaving and killing the native population to steal the land and resources for the benefit of the colonizing empire?

LMAO ok i'll make sure not to say anything when im gonna be away for an extended period of time like i have been for the previous few days mr. ben shapiro

the problem with polls/surveys/studies/etc. on native americans is a lot of it focuses on contemporary issues (addiction, discrimination, homelessness) to media-fueled sensational stories (their thoughts on cultural appropriation). you most likely will not find written record on what the exact ideologies of these tribes, but you  can find examples of what it is they want (https://www.pbs.org/newshour/arts/north_america-july-dec11-blackhills_08-23). hint: its the land.

most of my knowledge comes from engaging directly with indigenous. they are very active online and you can easily find their written works on social media or other written blog-like mediums. here is one such example of many (https://badsalishgirl.wordpress.com/2018/01/11/sqilxw-one-who-dreams-of-land/) again, i can cite more examples when i have more time.  dittodood;

not to mention that during the development of their own societies and empires they were also doing those very same things to themselves.

this is a legal dispute over the extent of a single tribe's claim to a share of the land, not "the land" in general, and it doesn't involve native americans as a whole befuddlement

in fact, the very fact that they're merely demanding the treaty be enforced as it was originally written (and thus recognize the treaty themselves) is clear evidence against your claim that they want the entire us back psyduck;

I'm going to have to say ABSOLUTELY not. thumbdown;

we just don't need all of canada for any reason whatsoever, lol

we don't need greenland

we don't want iceland

all of that would be exceedingly difficult and expensive to defend for a meager-at-best gain, it's just not NEARLY worth the cost

thank GOD d*nmark has given a resounding 'no' to tr*mp and all others who've been foolish enough to ask lol

Likewise, Yucatan State would be quite rad, but why Belize? huhdoodame;

not every english-speaking country in the western hemisphere needs to be "america" lol

bahamas and cuba YES, hispaniola NO (i mean just why huhdoodame;)

baja california YES, baja california sur NO (because it's an integral part of mexico)

And giving Sonora to the US just makes for an absolutely HIDEOUS southern border. ugly;

god, give it and baja california sur back to mexico immediately myface;

Leave Jamaica alone. psyduck;
