Title: vintage synth covers
Post by: strongbad on June 27, 2013, 06:27:07 PM
Something that I've been pretty into as of lately. It started when my friend and I found Patrick Gleeson's Star Wars - Selections from the film played on the world's most advanced synthesizer" in the record bin at good will. It's the goofiest thing:

(unfortunately the Cantina cover (the best song) isn't anywhere online)
The Switched on Bach series is also very popular:

Today I bought Nashville Gold (Switched On Moog) at Value Village which i haven't listened to yet, but it's country classics covered by some dude who is super into his moog
kinda tight i guess

I have all of them except for the one the Eleanor Rigby cover comes from, I think they're mostly rips from blogs that are no longer in operation. rip

There's also a neat album of chamber music variations of Erik Satie pieces mixed in with moog covers:

Ruth White (of Flowers of Evil (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ba4-nurH9Y) and  Seven Trumps from the Tarot Cards (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFxjOmFkcz0) fame) also made a nice album of Moog covers:

Martin Denny, one of the pioneers of "Exotica Lounge", released an album of Moog versions of some of the hits in that genre:

Les Baxter made one too, but it was classical covers:

This is just something on Youtube but it's neat:

The Moog Cookbook is from the 90s but they made Hotel California listenable:

Yeah, I have a ton of Tomita that I could maybe upload if anyone can't find it anywhere else. Snowflakes is particularly inspired though, and easy to find.

*Whoops, didn't see your other post Snorkel
