Option 1: SNES

Option 2: Wii

all you have to do is demonstrate that the snes > wii with a comparative list of games
that should be easy for you to do if it's actually true lol
Snes wins by default merely by the sheer number of great games available for it.
tec can you show me what you love about the wii aside from the galaxy games

i mean if you really want me to list all of the games on the snes that i think are at least "very good" then yeah here fucking goes buddy
super metroid
alttp
earthbound
ff6
ff4
kirby super star
kirby's dream course
kirby's dream land 3
super castlevania iv
mario world
yoshi's island
mario rpg
super mario all-stars (yes this counts, these are flawless remakes)
super mayro krat
chrono trigger
donkey kong country
donkey kong country 2
star fox
mega man x (at least the first, i'm honestly tempted to include x2 as well tho)
street fighter 2 (your preferred version here)
actraiser
contra iii
tmnt turtles in time
gradius iii
tetris attack (note: this is just panel de pon with a yoshi's island aesthetic but i love it)
super bomberman 1, 2, 3, 5 (4 is the only one less than great tbh)
shadowrun
f-zero
these are off the top of my head
i didn't include supposed greats that i haven't gotten to yet, like the lufia and breath of fire games, or illusion of gaia or terranigma. or plenty others
i'm also not including mario paint simply because it was only great at the time, actual computers made it obsolete pretty quickly. as cool as it is.
i will admit tho that i'm not a great source to ask, "hey what are the best games for the wii?" because i definitely haven't played some of the supposed great ones yet (like xenoblade). but here's my list so far nonetheless:
mario galaxy
galaxy 2
punch-out!!
the castlevania adventure: rebirth
kirby's epic yarn
skyward sword
metroid prime 3
rhythm heaven fever
twilight princess (wasn't originally going to include this but i guess it was on the wii first idk)
at least 31 vs at least 9
so you nearly don't consider x2 "very good?"
and you forgot donkey kong returns
well, i mean i guess i do yeah. and i consider x3 solidly "good"
and yes i did forget dkcr
i'll add my own snes greats in addition
Wild Guns
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Sparkster
Goof Troop
Aladdin
Magical Quest
Demon's Crest
Super Ghouls n Ghosts
Pocky and Rocky
Some of them snes star wars games
the only good snes games are bubsy and bubsy 2
but yeah this premise is even too crazy for me lol
I don't go back and play classic games much, so there aren't that many great snes ones I love
Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Mario All-Stars, Link to the Past, and Donkey Kong Country is basically it.
I guess Kirby Super Star kinda counts too; I never played it on SNES but I really like the DS remake. I probably should play Dream Land 3 and the other kirby classics on the copy of Dream Collection that I own for Wii.
On Wii, I love both Mario Galaxy games, the Wii ports of Pikmin, both Kirby games, Skyward Sword, and all three Trauma Center games. I like and I've played a bunch of others but they don't stand out to me as stellar in the same way or worth going back to.
QuoteIt is now established that the Wii is the greatest 3D Nintendo console
Why? I'd say GameCube has the better entries for franchises like Zelda and Smash Bros (probably Metroid too?), some great original first-party games like Pikmin and Luigi's Mansion since launch, and it was a pretty huge leap in graphical potential over the N64. It has much better controllers than both N64 and Wii.
In terms of hardware design, I like Switch best. Its compromises don't feel nearly as bad for games as N64's cartridges and controllers, GameCube's mini-discs, or Wii and Wii U's unusual controllers. Even if Switch underperforms a bit as a console (it's still closer to its competitors than Wii or Wii U were), for a handheld it feels like a huge leap in performance; like it's more than just one generation ahead of Vita, or more than two generations ahead of the 3DS.
The only stuff I'd say Wii really wins out on is Mario Galaxy, Virtual Console, and sales numbers.

that's completely fine. That was mostly meant as a jab on pc for me, cause I don't like pc gaming very much
But at the VERY LEAST, actual hardware compatibility is still a pretty positive feature.

you'd need wii component cables too, but either way you're splitting hairs here
the point is just because you can play one system's library on another doesn't mean make that system better. if this were a discussion on which of those two somone should buy if they can only pick one, then yes, get a backwards-compatible wii. when people discuss game consoles being better or worse, they are generally talking about the library produced specifically to play on that console. you could just take any mention of a console in this discussion and add " ...'s library of games" to it. this is a pedantic and stupid argument to make.
Yes. Tec already covered that. Thanks for repeating and then adding that what I said was stupid.
What else you got?
Also, the component thing is that official GameCube ones cost a LOT.
i could never find official wii ones anywhere either, third party ones seem to work just fine
Yeah, but 3rd party gamecube ones don't really exist

If anything I would say the few 90+ titles is a damnation of the Wiis library vs the N64 or GC if we're going by metacritic
if we're going strictly by # of 90s, the gamecube has 8 vs. the wii's 7
the n64 probably has like 6, but it predates metacritic
however, i'm going by something like average top 20 score, and sheer quantity of critically acclaimed games
in both measures, wii >>> gamecube/n64/wii u/etc.

yep, dk64 is turrible compared to dk's representatives on gamecube and wii
sm64 is nothing compared to galaxy

I didn't say 64 was better it's just not "nothing" lol
Because N64 games are more fun idk. Playing Wii games feels like trying to play PS2 era games with worse controls. ... imo.
i mean konga is literally a rhythm game lol, its neat but its fucking tiring to play because it hurts your hands after about 30 minutes of smashing the bongos and yours hands together. also the setlists were kind of doofy (though bongoing along to Rock Lobster is one of my fondest childhood memories)
jungle beat is actually pretty fucking great. its a platformer/beat-the-shit-outta-everything game that you use FUCKING BONGOS to play. kinda short though, but i think its a good length because one again it hurts like fucking sin to play. i've never played the port, but i'd imagine the Wii version actually has a slight edge because while the novelty of playing with bongos is great, you won't be able to play it for more than an hour at a time without hurting yourself lol. p sure the Wii version just has you emulate hitting bongos with the wiimote and nunchuck
i couldnt remember if donky konga had a story, but according to wikipedia it did lel
QuoteDonkey Kong and Diddy Kong are hanging out at the beach one day when they come across some mysterious objects that resemble barrels. Fearing they had something to do with King K. Rool, they take them to Cranky Kong. Cranky explains that they are bongos, so Donkey tries playing them. Diddy tries to do so as well. Then, when Donkey claps, the bongos start glowing. Cranky explains that the bongos have some kind of power inside them. Donkey and Diddy continue to play the bongos, but they both play terribly. Cranky advises them to practice. At first they are against this, but then they realize if they can become successful in playing the bongos, they could afford as many bananas as they wish, so they start practicing.
Didja know that instead of clapping, you can just hit the sides of the bongos? The Mic is super sensitive and will register it as a clap.
i mean thats what i'd do from like minute 30 onwards, but just hitting the bongos themselves hurt after a while cry;

apparently the remote/nunchuck are less intuitive than the bongos for this game (i guess that isn't surprising) and there are a few questionable gameplay tweaks
but overall it looks like i'd be fine with either version, so i guess i'll just pick up whichever is less expensive when i buy it lol

Dk64 was pretty great
would you be willing to play through all of dk64 today lol
with a good controller (ie not the n64's), i would be baddood;
I don't know why, after banjo-kazooie, rare thought that their games had to be BIG. Both tooie, and dk64 would've been better if they were just a bit more focused.

How are Galaxy's controls any worse than those of any other Mario game? The only thing that requires the pointer is starbit collection (and even then, you could alternatively just walk into them and not bother with the pointer at all). befuddlement
sling pods bruh

they probably just got overexcited and overzealous about the novelty of being able to create large 3d environments lol

true but these are fun
galaxy's use of motion controls is infrequent and unobtrusive and works well 99% of the time
they're pretty much only used in ways that enhance the game, or for actions that would otherwise be impossible
imo the only reason to dislike its controls if if you're just inherently opposed to motion controls to begin with lol
I don't mean the control scheme, that's all fine and works as it should. the sling pod things were usually fun too, it was more that controlling mario himself just felt weirdly loose and slippery to me, and regardless of settings or tvs i've played it on, there always seems to be a very slight lag. jumping never quite felt right to me either, as its the only mario game where, even on a flat surface, it's not unusual for me to misjudge where to land on top of an enemy. It's been a while since I last played but I think I remember thinking his jumps were shorter than usual too. befuddlement
none of this was horrible, but they were all slightly bothersome things that took me out of the game a bit.
If anybody wants a real example of "loose and slippery" controlling mario....
