i used this map as a template but i suppose you can use whatever map you want



and here's what i came up with lol:



i suppose i wouldn't change much but there are a few glaringly obvious problems that i did fix

-all of the nyc metro area now rightfully belongs to new york state

-cleaned up the mess of microstates in new england: new york gets vermont, maine gets new hampshire, and massachusetts/rhode island/connecticut all get merged into connectichusetts island

-the western half of hideously deformed maryland goes to west virginia, giving wv a generous, much-needed coastline along chesapeake bay

-the eastern half of maryland gets combined with the remainder of new jersey and all of delaware to become new marywaresey

-tidy the borders between virginia/kentucky/north carolina/tennessee

-deuglify north carolina-georgia border

-deuglify the florida-alabama border (alabama deserves a little more coastline imo)

-deuglify the mississippi-louisiana border

-deuglify the wisconsin-minnesota border

-deuglify missouri

-combine arkansas and oklahoma (practically indistinguishable already anyway) so that there isn't a giant, almost perfectly vertical and completely arbitrary line splitting the us in half (the mississippi river split can stay because at least it's a natural boundary)

-restore texas to approximately its glorious original dimensions along the rio grande, give the balance of new mexico to arizona (sorry new mexico)

-deuglify the california-nevada border

in total we go from 50 to 42 states and get a much more æsthetic map

Unfortunately, F*DERALISM makes this all all but impossible.

I actually really like America's internal borders. I think east of the Mississippi is especially neat the way it all fits together with all the panhandles and stuff. There's something cozy about it.

It might be that I was obsessed with geography as a kid (and still as an adult, to a slightly lesser degree), so for some reason a US map has a nostalgic value with me, but I dunno man. I just like it.

also tec your new Northeast is a fucking monstrosity and I hate it

The only things I might change:

• Give West Virginia's west and east panhandles to Ohio and Maryland, respectively
• Give Long Island to New Jersey
• Make the Upper Peninsula its own state or hand it over to Wisconsin
• Give Missouri's nubbin to Arkansas
• Sand down the whole Alabama-Georgia-Florida border in general
• Give Georgia's dangly bit up top to South Carolina rather than North Carolina

Nothing else really bothers me enough to mention, and even these don't really bother me.

it's the only state that seceeded from the confederate rebels in order to stick with the north lol

it has earned its right to exist, much more so than most other states tbh

and it would look so much better with a generous chesapeake coastline, from which it would greatly benefit economically also (i mean jesus CHRIST we need to wean those guys off the coal dust somehow)

That's kinda the point I was going for: if you're taking Cuba and the bahamas in addition to keeping puerto rico, you already have most of the Caribbean landmass

Whatever parts of Canada it takes to connect Alaska to the mainland. Or just give Alaska to Canada, either in full or at least that long and narrow stretch of its southeast.

for the most part i like it too lol, but it could be better with just a few small tweaks

in fact, that about sums up how i feel about america in general lol

but there's relatively little that i changed, geographically at least

my problem with mississippi is that it just suddenly becomes angular and imbalanced in the south, but i agree that panhandles can be neat and cozy
