Great, another psychopath going off and killing his classmates.

Who else here wants to bet Jack Thompson will get involved with this?
He already is.

The day it happened, he was already yelling about how violent videogames are what caused him to do it.

Half of it was the school's fucking fault. They didn't even inform anybody that the school would be dangerous that day, and that there were shootings. They had FOURTY FIVE FUCKING MINUTES, and they didn't tell anybody. My cousin goes to VT, and his friend got killed because of that fucking school.

I heard they repeatedly sent out e-mails warning students.

Only thing /b/ did about t was the whole revival and death of the "V Tech just kicked in" for about 2 minutes. I'm surprised they didn't run with that idea, it was very cleaver.

I was just on 4chan and saw this.  I don't know if it's true or not but I'll copy/paste

QuoteLong before he boiled over, Virginia Tech gunman Cho Seung-Hui was picked on, pushed around and laughed at over his shyness and the strange way he talked when he was a schoolboy in suburban Washington, former classmates say.

Chris Davids, a Virginia Tech senior who graduated from Westfield High School in Chantilly, Va., with Cho in 2003, recalled that the South Korean immigrant almost never opened his mouth and would ignore attempts to strike up a conversation.

Once, in English class, the teacher had the students read aloud, and when it was Cho's turn, he just looked down in silence, Davids recalled. Finally, after the teacher threatened him with an F for participation, Cho started to read in a strange, deep voice that sounded "like he had something in his mouth," Davids said.

"As soon as he started reading, the whole class started laughing and pointing and saying, `Go back to China,'" Davids said.

QuoteRegan Wilder, 21, who attended Virginia Tech, high school and middle school with Cho, said she was in several classes with Cho in high school, including advanced-placement calculus and Spanish. She said he walked around with his head down, and almost never spoke. And when he did, it was "a real low mutter, like a whisper."

As part of an exam in Spanish class, students had to answer questions in Spanish on tape, and other students were so curious to know what Cho sounded like that they waited eagerly for the teacher to play his recording, she said. She said that on the tape, he did not speak confidently but did seem to know Spanish.

Wilder recalled high school teachers trying to get him to participate, but "he would only shrug his shoulders or he'd give like two-word responses, and I think it just got to the point where teachers just gave up because they realized he wasn't going to come out of the shell he was in, so they just kind of passed him over for the most part as time went on."

Cho tried to ask his roomate and another girl out on a date, but they called the cops on him for being a stalker.

http://www.gamestooge.com/2007/04/16/dr-phil-suggests-video-games-to-blame-for-virginia-tech-shootings/

QuoteOn the heels of Jack Thompsonâ,,,s rush to blame video games in the wake of the tragedy at Virginia Tech, Dr. Phil has chimed in with support for this theory. Speaking on Larry King Live tonight, Dr. Phil had this to say on the issue,

â,"The problem is we are programming these people as a society. You cannot tell me - common sense tells you - that if these people are playing video games where theyâ,,,re on a mass killing spree in a video game, itâ,,,s glamorized on the big screen, itâ,,,s become part of the fiber of our society. You take that and mix it with a psychopath, a sociopath, or someone suffering from mental illness, add in a dose of rage, the suggestability is just too high. And weâ,,,re going to have to start dealing with that. Weâ,,,re going to have to start addressing those issues and recognizing that the mass murderers of tomorrow are the children of today that are being programmed with this massive violence overdose.â,

At the time of this writing, the identity of the shooter (or possibly shooters) has not been released. So Dr. Philâ,,,s suggestions are not based on credible, or any, specific information about this particular shooting. At least he lumped in movies while throwing out baseless and pre-mature conclusions.

We are just hearing the beginning of what will certainly be many people placing the blame for this tragedy on video games and the mass media culture.

http://www.gamestooge.com/2007/04/18/howard-stern-bashes-dr-phil-and-video-gamevirginia-tech-connection

QuoteHoward Stern eloquently expressed his opinion about Dr. Phil this morning after hearing the docâ,,,s comments on video games and the Virginia Tech massacre:

    â,"Heâ,,,s a fucking asshole!â,

Youâ,,,ll have to excuse me because thatâ,,,s the only direct quote I could get down, the following are half-quotes, half-paraphrased. If anyone can provide a clip of the actual audio, it would be greatly appreciated.

Howard, Robin, and other in-studio personalities ridiculed the idea that video games could have caused the shootings, sarcastically suggesting that â,"Hitler played Donkey Kongâ, and â,"Osama Bin Laden played Grand Theft Auto.â,

Howard went on to explain, â,"You know the reason why Dr. Phil is an asshole? â,¦because whenever something like this happens he wants to play the â,˜blame gameâ,,,.â, He and Robin both commented that many people play video games â,"all day and all nightâ, and do not act out violently. Howard sarcastically remarked that blame is always placed on â,"the movies or something.â, He then concluded the discussion saying what many gamers have been saying for years, â,"This is so stupid.â,

The self-proclaimed â,"King of All Mediaâ, is known as a staunch protector and advocate of First Amendment rights. His show can be heard on Sirius Satellite Radio from 6am to around 11am Monday through Thursday.

Ba-Ba-Bouey!

http://www.gamestooge.com/2007/04/18/rush-limbaugh-on-va-tech-shootings/

QuoteAll that America has had on its mind the past few days has been the massacre at Virginia Tech. What were the killerâ,,,s motives? What was the killerâ,,,s background? And thanks to Jack Thompson and Dr. Phil, how have videogames affected Cho Seung Huiâ,,,s killing spree agenda?

From those that have obviously portrayed a stance opposite from that of many gamers, there have risen a few notable public figures out there, who carry some heavy weight with their words, speaking out against these claims â,” most notably Howard Stern, and now the ever outspoken radio host: Rush Limbaugh.

After receiving a question concerning the matter of videogames being a factor, Limbaugh responded:

Not every video gamer goes out and murders 33 people on the college campus though. Thereâ,,,s more to this than that. We can find all kinds of societal problems and ills, but the fact of the matter is that whatever you would look at as a bad influence â,” video games as you mentioned â,” it may desensitize people, but it doesnâ,,,t turn everybody into mass murderersâ,¦But how many people are playing video games out there? How many millions of people play video games, and how many millions of people have guns?

Itâ,,,s a very valid point, and it certainly brings out a fault with the media that many people have complained about for years. While news outlets certainly jump through hoops just to get the latest scoop on a big story, they sometimes lack the journalistic integrity to check their facts before announcing it to the world.

The VA Tech shootings havenâ,,,t just brought about faults within the mediaâ,,,s reporting of the videogames world though, keep in mind that a certain news outlet mistakenly misstated the shooterâ,,,s name three times before announcing the real facts.

Daddy

Yeah, the news was busy putting the blame on other things.

Just like Columbine, the media neglected the factor that the shooter was being bullied.

I'm not justifying going out and killing 32 people but DAMN people in positions of authority  could have prevented this shit if they just acted years ago.

QuoteBehavior at middle school & high school

In middle school and high school, Cho was teased and picked on for his shyness and unusual speech patterns. In English class at Westfield High School, Cho looked down and refused to speak when it was his turn to speak aloud, said Chris Davids, a high school classmate of Cho's. Because of the teasing, Cho often would refuse to speak when picked by the teacher in class. After one teacher threatened him with an F for participation, Cho began reading in a strange, deep voice that sounded "like he had something in his mouth," Davids said. "The whole class started laughing and pointing and saying, `Go back to China,'" Davids said. Another classmate, Stephanie Roberts, states that "There were just some people who were really mean to him and they would push him down and laugh at him," and "He didn't speak English really well and they would really make fun of him."[33]

QuoteOfficial psychiatric evaluation

University officials said the school then obtained a "temporary detention order" from a local magistrate that allowed them to refer Cho to an off-campus medical facility. Cho was admitted to Carilion St. Albans Psychiatric Hospital on December 13, 2005. He was released the next day. According to Virginia law, "A magistrate has the authority to issue a detention order upon a finding that a person is mentally ill and in need of hospitalization or treatment." "The magistrate also must find that the person is an imminent danger to himself or others," says the guideline from Virginia's state court system.[43][44]
In 2005, Cho Seung-hui was temporarily detained for a psychiatric assessment, as he was suspected to be mentally ill and a danger to himself or others by a Montgomery County, Virginia district court. Virginia Special Justice Paul Barnett certified in an order that Cho Seung-hui "presents an imminent danger to himself as a result of mental illness," and directed that as a "Court-ordered Out-Patient he follow all recommended treatments."[45] Following a psychiatric evaluation and medical exam which noted Cho's flat affect and depressed mood, he was told to undergo outpatient care and was released.[43] Some reports state that Cho is believed to have been taking psychiatric medications for depression,[46] but there is no record of this in federal prescription databases.[47] The fact he was not committed later meant he was legally able to buy guns, avoiding the ban on those who have been involuntarily committed from owning firearms.[48]

QuotePlays

Richard McBeef

In 2006, Cho wrote a short, profanity-laden one-act play entitled "Richard McBeef". It is about a 13-year-old boy, John, who accuses his stepfather, Richard McBeef, of molesting him and murdering his father. John repeatedly says he will kill Richard. John, Richard, and Sue, John's mother, become involved in a major argument. The play ends with Richard, who up until this point is passive, dealing John "a deadly blow".[72]

Mr. Brownstone

In a second play attributed to Cho, titled "Mr. Brownstone", three 17-year-olds named John, Jane, and Joe are gambling at a casino while discussing their deep hatred of their 45-year-old mathematics teacher, Mr. Brownstone, who they claim mistreated them (using the phrase 'ass-rape'). Brownstone appears and, amid volleys of profanity, cheats them out of their casino winnings.[73][74]

Reactions to writings

Edward Falco, a playwriting professor at Virginia Tech, has acknowledged that Cho wrote both plays in his class. The plays are less than 12 pages long and have several grammatical and typographical errors. Falco believed that Cho was drawn to writing because of his difficulty communicating verbally. Falco said of the plays, "They're not good writing, but at least they are a form of communication."[75]

Another professor who taught Cho characterized his work as "very adolescent" and "silly", with attempts at "slapstick comedy" and "elements of violence."[76]

Classmates believed "the plays, were really morbid and grotesque."[77] Former classmate, Ian MacFarlane stated, "When we read Cho's plays, it was like something out of a nightmare. The plays had really twisted, macabre violence that used weapons I wouldn't have even thought of."[78]
