yeah he's tough. i ended up finding a strategy that worked pretty consistently though, but probably only with a weapon that has a long reach in transformed mode (like the ludwig's holy blade i usually use) if you bait his attack where he just calmly walks toward you, get back far enough and go into transformed mode and charge an r2 attack to the max. try to hit him once he's close enough to hit but not close enough to attack you. it'll do huge damage and stun him to allow either another another quick hit or a dodge away

also, i only have one trophy left in this game. gotta do a couple more chalices to fight the optional chalice dungeon boss for my last trophy

There's an even easier strategy...
Let him come up to you in the rafters or whatever and hit him there.

Rafters? You can only fight him inside the grand cathedral. Where Vicar Amelia was. There are no rafters you can access in there.

You can bait him to the doors though and cheese him that way

Also, if you can make him de-aggro while his weapon is transformed, he'll slowly die of its life drain.

it's apparent that it's about time i start bringing my weapons up to +9, but chunks are SO scarce that i'm hesitant to spend the few i have on any one weapon
