did some upgrades  bassir;
old motherboard had a fucked up fan that made crazy ass noises. had a script that ran on startup to adjust the thresholds but it was super annoying whenever i turned my computer on. also wanted to try a small form factor pc case, really like how the NR200 looks on my desk

also finally using an m.2 ssd which feels nice (also finally have 1tb instead of half that lol)
other than that still using my old 5700xt and Ryzen 5 3600, no complaints from performance there

surprised u would opt for at least 2tb of storage

sounds nice though goodjob;

despite being previously apprehensive about buying the 3060ti
it definitely was a quality of life change for content making, archiving plays, rendering vids, streaming, and ofc gaming, even if i dont play anything too intense

still need to sell that gtx 1060 lol

Ya I was already doing fine with 480gb so imagine I'll be fine with a 1tb. Still haven't old ssd that I can get hooked up if I need it

ikanaide

i got a new cpu Ryzen 7 5800X3D a few months ago but other than that haven't upgraded my pc since radeon rx vega came out maybe like 5(?) years ago which i bought on release, don't regret the purchase but i think i severely overpaid for it as there were stock shortages when it first came out

other than that i built a pc for my wife last week so we can play games together which is near enough identical to strongbad pc with the 3600 and 5700-xt, B550 motherboard, 1 tb storage and two monitors. rather than building from scratch i kinda just repurposed my old pc that had a R9 390 and AMD FX cpu and made some upgrades so I didn't have to buy the case, power supply, etc. spent about 550 pounds overall (about $700), mostly used parts.

honestly our specs are plenty enough for just about anything these days, no need to spend a mountain of cash on the latest gen i feel like it's only really for enthusiast people who care about 4k gaming. have been a bit tempted by OLED monitors tho to be fair, they look pretty damn nice and i'm getting a bit fed up of always having monitors with washed out colours but they cost more than the price of my whole setup

Currently set up a little fund to start a new computer build.  giggle;

For now I don't have much locked in. I'm debating between the 4070 and 7800 XT. Honestly not sure at all in terms of processor that I want.... I need to remind myself that I'm probably not going to be playing the most intensse games ever on it. I really want it so the games I do play play extremely much more smoothly than my rapidly obsolescing PC I built at the beginning of this thread. But I don't need top of the line bleeding edge for everything.

I haven't settled on a monitor yet, but I'm eyeing the new Alienware ones. They look mighty nice, or maybe Dell will be nice and make a Dell-branded variant that's slightly cheaper.

I think I'm going to aim for the Fractal North for case. My current case is ooookkkkaaaay. It definitely lacks modern cooling considerations and honestly I don't need a bunch of HDD and drive bays taking up the front third of the space.

I don't think I'll do much in terms of gaudy RGB lighting. At least not inside the case, it seems mostly pointless.

Games I'll probably be playing the most:
American Truck Simulator
Euro Truck Sim
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
GTAV
RDR2
I'm intrigued by Starfield and def don't want to buy an Xbone just to play it
Cities Skylines 2

Yeah, I thought about it. But I also want a better computer than I have now.

Like getting the Steam Deck+Laptop could be an option, but so many non-shite laptops are so overpriced and would basically put me back to where I would be spending it on a decent computer set up lol :(

ikanaide

good choice on the fractal north i've been eyeing up it for a while now it's honestly such a nice looking case definitely gonna get me one of those at some point as well

i think for the processor, if i were in your position i would just go for anything in the ryzen 7000 series like a 7600x or 7800x3d if you want a bit more, but TBH i don't think the difference between the two would be super noticeable. and if AM4 is anything to go by, getting in on AM5 now will leave you plenty of upgrade potential without having to replace your motherboard and RAM too

ME##

Yeah, I've been eyeing the 7600X, it seems to be a nice sweet spot and like you said hopefully AM5 won't be a dead platform in 1-3 CPU gens

Honestly pretty hype about the prospect of building a new computer lol
