don't learn c or c++ as a first language. they'll only discourage you due to their difficulty
I learned C as my first language and I think it encouraged me n_u

And I still know it much more thoroughly than any other language.

I still like it quite a lot for the purpose of a first language to learn. Unlike Java and C++, which I see more commonly used as the introductory programming language at least for college, there's a lot less of "You have to program this way and you'll learn why much later"; every line of a hello world program can be explained easily to new programmers, but with Java you'll end up talking about what classes and static methods are and with C++ you'll end up talking about namespaces, cout, and operator overloading.

Python (3) is a great first language too, but I'd say 2 seems less consistent.
