Well here's another reason for me to put off buying a PS4 further: this new model will either be a worthwhile upgrade or it'll reduce the price of existing/non-UHD models

Speaking of new PS4 models, Sony did silently release a second small revision a couple months ago: CUH-1200, which makes things lighter, lower-power, quieter, adds actual power+eject buttons, and removes the gloss, but in the US it only comes with 500GB for now.

Yes. I bought a 2015 Sony one in July.

Besides 4K, the new UHD BD-Video format promises better video encoding and colors. Regardless, if I have the option, maybe I might as well get the one compatible with the newer blurays so I can use one if they're ever the same price as or bundled with older blurays.

There's a chance that games could use the new disc format, although for Sony's sake I hope they don't opt to fragment their console like that. Maybe PS5 will exclusively use them.
