things you think would be kickass to do if you actually had the ambition to try

Right now, two things on the top of my list:

-make chiptunes
-make retro-style games

And use said chiptunes in said games. I mean, I know how to use Game Maker (it's really easy) so it's not like I couldn't make a game but making my own sprites is hell (I've been there before, I gave up fast - no spriting talent in me). Plus with Game Maker I would be rather limited...the games can be .exe only, and the programming can be pretty counter-intuitive at times, and that's a limit in itself.

But I am getting that old itch to start trying my hand at making games with that little program again. Each time it happens, though, I never get very far.

Game Maker is just the only i particularly know how to make games easily, mostly because i remember its language, and when it comes to any situation where i don't remember the coding, i can use drag and drop instead (usually). i mean, i would love to learn a better way to make games, but that's just the only method i ALREADY know how to use.

I think it would be cool to try to learn an instrument again. I doubt I will ever be able to write music and I'm rather in awe of those who do.

But just learning to play something would be a nice step. I've got a keyboard sitting at home I could try out...

Playing music (on keyboard/piano) is another thing I probably could do well if I tried. I even have a keyboard in my dorm with the intention to find time and motivation to do something with it.

I actually agree with him a bit. Regular game programming is entirely different and requires familiarity with general programming; not something to simply pick up. Game Maker is also really not in the same league as manual programming.

that goes without saying. but did i ever say "fuck real programming, i'll stick to game maker?" no, i just said that i've used it before and still know how to use it, so i could make a game with that if i wanted to. like i said, hell, if i had the ambition to learn real game programming, i'd do it. i know perfectly well what game maker is and isn't capable of.
