My spell check prefers judgment so I'll go with that
I don't have a strong opinion either way on this one, but I guess judgment is more like the pronunciation
I tend to switch between American and regular English spellings regularly, but never noticed this difference before

yes, it works the same way

interestingly though, this spell-checker (chrome's) isn't recognizing "abridgement," despite recognizing "judgement"

it's probably because both judgement and judgment are common enough for both spellings to be ruled accurate.  much like cancelled/canceled.

judgment, it seems better to me given the way the word is pronounced... judgement to me implies some sort of dropped intermediary syllable, but there is none.
