Before going into web design firms, one should know what web designing is all about.
Creating a website is the process through which you digitalize and connect yourself or your
business to the vast world of Internet. Web designing is more of an artistic process.
As you know, the number of websites and web design firms is numerous.
If you are a businessman, your first priority would be to make your website stand out among the zillion sites that are already present in the internet, where each one is better than the other.
The competition is tough, and it is not an easy task.
The primary step would be to choose a good web design firm which meets your needs perfectly and at the same time, is available within your resources. Here are a few important tips to keep in mind while choosing one.

A good web design firm should have a good website. By “good”, it doesn’t mean that it should be designed to meet all your interests, but in general, it should have all the aspects necessary to attract a prospective client. It should be attractive and simple (in terms of visual design), user-friendly, and easily navigable.
A strong website comprising these features is the calling card for their business. Providing the customer what they require in minimum time with least hassle, and highlighting matters of importance without overwhelming the less important. A good web design firm always keeps the above factors in mind.

Another thing to be noticed is a portfolio of their previous works which they might have published in their site.
Check those works to see if they meet your expectations and are up to your standards.
Good web design firms will design an original site for you based on your directions and requirements. For this, they will need information on your industry and your business needs which they may obtain through questionnaires or by other means. If they seem less interested to know about your business, you may assume that they don’t deserve to design your site.

i usually just design webs on a functional basis rather than working toward anything fancy - as long as it can capture small insects, that's fine with me.
