it's about this guy who ends up being the frontman for a metal band

i mean i haven't seen it either but i imagine it has a great deal of metal music in it. i figured since you didn't like beck you probably wouldn't like any music-related animu.

i didn't like beck because it was too slice-of-lifey for my tastes when i was like 16 goowan

how many music-related animaze are there even confuseddood;

also the horrible idea of watching a certain "comedy" anime i watched this season came to mind for a brief second...but let's not go there awdood;

Not too hard; I've watched several things fitting the description of short and comedy:
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Rozen Maiden
Shinryaku! Ika Musume (Squid Girl)
K-ON
Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Waka ga Nai (my little sister can't be this cute)
Zero no Tsukaima
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu
Maria Holic
Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru

Though most of these have a second season, the first season alone is 12~13 episodes. Of these nine, I think either Zetsubou Sensei or Rozen Maiden is most likely to be considered.
