Rock Band drums

Rock Band 2 drums are $90. Rock Band drums are $30. Now, I was originally just going to easily pick the cheaper set since I've played on one of those sets many times with no trouble at my friend's place (although I would replace the kick pedal with a metal one). Now I'm not so sure, because a lot of people complain about troubles with it and people seem to enjoy the newer drums more for whatever reason.

Should I shell out the extra $60 just for drums that are supposedly a little better and quieter? Is it really even that likely I'd have trouble with these cheaper drums? And if I did, couldn't I just send them into Harmonix anyway?

I think you should be fine with the cheaper ones.  But then again, I'm not exactly an expert on RockBand.   n_u
