I'm pretty sure there's no same zip codes in different cities.
The zip code pretty much correlates to the direct location. goonish
Why not just ask for zip code?

Some people don't what people to know exactly where they live, and my zipcode would make it seem like I live in a different town than I really do.

Also is it just me or are the purple thumb tacks hard[er] to notice from a certain distance on Google Earth?
