Why do the emotes have weird names, and spellings to type them?

This isn't msn vir; us;

Because Lawlz didn't want semi-colons.  I didn't want words.  The middle ground for most of them was using other things.

Some of them stayed with the semicolon.

We deleted gimp; , which Guff enjoyed using so he combined it with doodthing; and  gimpdood; was born.

I can maybe understand a semicolon if it's a word like the, but how often is a person truly going to use gimpdood in a sentence?
