Dragon Quest VIII isn't bad, but it's just the slowest and most utterly plain RPG you can ever buy. You'd really be better off with just another Final Fantasy.

Is it hard? (R3) 

Not really, unless you go for a powerup and it suddenly turns into a blue laser or you spawn and ned a weapon and you immediately have to go for something and it's the blue laser. Jesus, anything but the vulcan shot is useless.

So if you die and have bad lack and get a blue laser, you're going to die a lot. If you can keep the vulcan shot, it's pretty easy.
