I find 2GB/s Download speeds somewhat pointless

It would be GiB for Gigabit.
PCI is only like 33mb/s.

2Gb/s is two Gigabits per second...

...which comes out to be 250 Megabytes per second, SATA and PCI harddives can handle that.

Well, a 2GB/s connection is 16Gb/s, which is faster than anything available right now, so I figured he made a typo.  Also, data transfer speed is usually in *bits per second


Also where did I say they were.  I was talking about writing data to harddrives.    He said

And he's right; hard drives can't write that fast.  The connection to the hard drive can transmit data at that rate.  These are very different things.  You could have a gigabit ethernet connection to your DSL modem, but that's not going to make the 768 or 512 etc. connection perform at that speed.
