I find 2GB/s Download speeds somewhat pointless

GB = GigaByte
GiB = Giga binary byte (pronounced Gibibyte)
Gb = Gigabit

Well, a 2GB/s connection is 16Gb/s, which is faster than anything available right now, so I figured he made a typo.  Also, data transfer speed is usually in *bits per second


Also where did I say they were.  I was talking about writing data to harddrives.    He said

see above; isps are not the only people who transfer data

And he's right; hard drives can't write that fast.  The connection to the hard drive can transmit data at that rate.  These are very different things.  You could have a gigabit ethernet connection to your DSL modem, but that's not going to make the 768 or 512 etc. connection perform at that speed.
oh and even a fucking raptor's max speed is below 120MB/s

Unless he was talking about a LAN, which I doubt--He would be talking about an ISP if he's downloading movies.

No one uses gigabits JMV... never ever really heard someone say that.

2GB/s is used in businesses and places that have more than one computer because all those computers share the same internet connection so they take only a fraction of the 2GBs a second.

56k is 56 kilobits per second


I don't think I've seen any ISP advertise their speeds in bytes per second, only bits.
