2007 NBA Playoffs

One of the most exciting sporting events of the year, the NBA Playoffs is a real test for NBA teams. After the regular season is completed (which is 81 games), the top 8 teams in each conference (there are 2: Eastern and Western) are seeded, #1 being the highest seed, and #8 being the lowest seed. How teams are seeded depends on their record in the regular season. In the first round, the series are a best-of-7 series. 2 teams play up to 7 games against each other; the first team to 4 games won goes on to the next round, and the losing team goes home. The first round is:

#1 vs. #8
#2 vs. #7
#3 vs. #6
#4 vs. #5

This year, the Western Conference was:

Dallas (#1) vs. Golden State (#8)
Phoenix (#2) vs. Los Angeles (#7)
San Antonio (#3) vs. Denver (#6)
Utah (#4) vs. Houston (#5)

In the East, the teams lined up as:

Detroit (#1) vs. Orlando (#8)
Cleveland (#2) vs. Washington (#7)
Toronto (#3) vs. New Jersey (#6)
Miami (#4) vs. Chicago (#5)


Every year, the NBA Playoffs are a joy to watch, since the teams put an extra effort to win the Championship and get that extra pay. But this year has already been terrific. #1 overall seed Dallas Mavericks were knocked out by the #8 Golden State Warriors, who barely got into the playoffs. The defending champions Miami Heat, got swept by the Chicago Bulls. It's already been exciting. The first round ended as:

Western Conference:

Golden State (8) beats Dallas (1): 4-2
Phoenix (2) beats LA (7): 4-1
San Antonio (3) beats Denver (6): 4-1
Utah (4) beats Houston (5): 4-3

Eastern Conference:

Detroit (1) beats Orlando (8): 4-0
Cleveland (2) beats Washington (7): 4-0
New Jersey (6) beats Toronto (3): 4-2
Chicago (5) beats Miami (4): 4-0

The second round has begun, and there's already been some excitement. Chicago, who swept Miami in the previous round, is getting swept by Detroit in the second round. The Phoenix-San Antonio series is turning out to be a classic series. Here are the standings as of now.

Western Conference:

Phoenix (2) vs. San Antonio (3): San Antonio leads series 2-1
Utah (4) vs. Golden State (8): Utah leads series 2-1

Eastern Conference:

Detroit (1) vs. Chicago (5): Detroit leads series 3-0
Cleveland (2) vs. New Jersey (6): Cleveland leads series 2-1


Hopefully the 2007 NBA Playoffs will continue to be exciting and entertaining.
