It is indeed worth it.

The online play is what makes it fun though. Leaderboards ftw  flower;

The Mii I use for online play's name is "WTF" so if you see him that's me :O

Well yes, single player is good for unlocking stuff and what not, and the online is well made.
Plus there is a domination mode which you can practice against level 1-5 computers so that you can train for online matches.
