I just finished installing Ubuntu, which amazingly took about 9 hours with this crappy DSL connection.
But I've got to say, it was worth the wait.
I love the look and feel of it. And Firefox looks better, and even runs a bit faster.
Of course, that could be from other things I did earlier, but that's not the point.

besides, using closed source software on an open source os when it's avoidable just seems silly

And you don't need a full KDE install, just the runtimes and some libraries.  Synaptic would handle that.

Umm, go to Places > Host > Documents and Settings > [YOUR ACCOUNT] > My Music (or Desktop, or wherever you put your music).

"Host" is basically Windows.

All my music was stored in Windows Media Player. :'(
And some in Limewire.
My "My Music" folder is, and has always been empty.

Well, when you get to your account folder in Documents and Settings, try "Shared".

To play mp3's click Applications > Add or Remove > search for "Ubuntu Restricted Extras", check the box next to "Ubuntu restricted extras" and click OK.
