This will display anything from any folder that you drag down there, not just apps. It can be Documents, Music, or your favorite porn folder.

but why put it in the Start Menu? Isn't that way to obvious?

Mine is hidden so no one can see it, also many people don't look on my computer much, I just hide it because it has noods of females I know and would like to savor them for myself.
