Although it's slightly thinner, the two other dimensions are larger enough that the new model has in total 0.77% more volume when closed. Its screens are exactly the same size as before.

The smaller version, on the other hand, is noticeably larger (+19% volume) than the original 3DS and has screens which are 11% larger as well.
