Wii U version releases this Friday in North America

The special Smash-logo GameCube controller has a 9-foot-long cord, which is longer than the 6ft cord regular GameCube controllers had but the same as the special white GameCube controller which I think was Japan-exclusive and made for Wii.

For the 3DS version, the patch version 1.0.4 released last night. It apparently introduces very extensive balance changes and fixes all the well-known bugs (Wario vectoring, Yoshi egg warp, supergiant Yoshi, landing lag cancels). The most noticeable balance change is that Lumas now take ~5s longer to respawn than before. A lot of other characters have tweaks to damage and hitbox/range.

Another event this week, albeit not directly Smash-related, is that hackers/homebrewers are publicly releasing their 3DS/N3DS exploits and homebrew launcher this Saturday. There doesn't yet seem to be any region-unlocking, ROM-loading, or game-modding. Considering that those features probably require a kernel-mode exploit, it will probably be a while before they're usable.
