I don't think dogs would work very well on a small island since they're carnivores and would require prey (potentially disrupting the ecosystem) or many trips offshore to buy kibble. Also their poop just lies there unlike a turtle/tortoise's which is eaten by fish or other turtles... Although I guess dogs may eat their own shit too
