why do so many people willingly choose to go on emotional rollercoasters

I've never been in love, but this is how a good friend of mine who was in a serious relationship explained love to me:
Love is the ultimate drug. Nothing feels better than being around the person, and when you're not around the person, you can't stop thinking about them to the point where you can get depressed if you go too long without seeing them. It's like a withdrawal.

I've been in not so serious relationships before and I can definitely see the appeal. I'd like to find a girlfriend this year  n_n

but how often is it permanent

how many relationships actually result in marriage
and even then, how many marriages are actually genuine and how many end with bitter divorce goowan
i think marriage is completely beside the point anyway because i personally don't think marriage should be some sort of default "end goal" for relationships

It's the feeling that you and your partner are wrapped in a warm blanket. That's what I like.  giggle;

To clarify, I don't think dating is stupid or wrong in any way, I just think it's funny that we expect it to go well when we are all fully aware that the probability of eventual failure is extremely high.  Upon hearing "X is now going out with Y" -  type news, I can't help but think, "That's nice, but how long until the inevitable break up?" sillydood;
and upon hearing "X is no longer going out with Y" - type news, i can't help but think, "well that's unfortunate, but with all the break-ups the world has experienced in the past, couldn't they see that coming lol :|"
I simply acknowledge that very few romantic relationships actually last "till death do them part", and admittedly it's pretty funny that we can be so optimistic about something almost guaranteed to eventually fail. sillydood;

but it's not like i wouldn't make the same mistakes or anything, unfortunately i too am only human :|
which is why i will never pursue a romantic relationship :|
