some dumbass has registered for a few things using my email address

Has this ever happened to you? Today apparently it was some online game called Imperia Online or something. But recently it was also some stock market newsletter, and something else financially related as well a couple months back.

And a long time ago, I remember someone also signing up for Myspace with my email address. He was some giant comic book nerd.

I've checked the "recent activity" on Gmail and found nothing but my own IP address all down the line, so it's not like anyone else actually has access to the account...so why use someone else's address at all? It's not like you can verify any accounts without access to the emails that places send you.

Maybe someone has a very similar email address to yours and has made errors?

Quite possible. Although many places require you to type your email address twice while registering for something. Quite possible they made an error and then copypasted it into the next form, cause I can't see someone making the same error twice in a row otherwise.
