Gauging interest: If I were to write a mod that allowed built in streaming for Boyah and allowed for posts to load/submit via AJAX would you use it?

you really need to get over this whole "streaming is killing boyah" thing, because only three users are constantly attending streams, and that's me, nyerp, and david...and if the rest of you can't post enough to keep things afloat, that's not the problem of us three, it's the problem of those who don't post.

because to be honest, we three post more than the rest of you anyway.

anyway, now that i said that, can someone explain this AJAX thing to me?

then again it's not like the server could take it 5thgrade;

NYERP AND DAVID ARE THE TOP 'HI' POSTERS OF THE CHAT THREAD  akudood;

THEY MAKE OTHER PEOPLE REPLY HI TO THEM
akudood; akudood; akudood;

The AJAX would use Javascript to pull the most recent posts from a specified thread and load them in a manner similar to an auto updating shoutbox. Submissions would work in the reverse manner.  I'd just have to work something out like flood protection (only submitting posts once every 10 seconds so double posts and whatnot get combined into a single post.)

The streaming portion possibly but depending on how much bandwidth it uses and how often it's done we might be able to use a CDN or EC2.

the current streams have chats yes

it would load a thread as if it were a chat without having to refresh the page and whatnot.  Someone in the stream would see it as a simple chat type thing while someone in the forums would see it as a thread.

Converting a chat directly to forum posts? That doesn't sound like it'd work well. It'd involve a ton of short one-line posts with little relevance if read at a later time, basically ruining the point of being a forum post in the first place
